I'm back!!
It turns out I have been dignosied with with RX-7 fever. You guys may remember a long time ago, 2 years to be approx, I got my first red '93 FD. It had over 80K miles and the engine blew just after 10,000. I decided it wasn't worth it to get a rebuild or new engine, so I sold her for dirt cheap (If I remeber I think it was $5,000 cash for a mint FD with mint exterior, mint interior, Pioneer sound system with two 10 inch subs, BBS rims, Nitto tires, and beefed-up 5-speed, just no engine.)
Then, 4 months after that I saw a blue RX-7 for sale on my way to work. I stopped by just as the owner was leaving his building and we meet at the FD. I he said the thing breaks down all the time, and he's not a mechanic (obviously not, he was wearing a pressed business suit and looked like he had never gotten his hands dirty) and said he would give it to me for $10,000. Now, this was a 1994 blue RX-7 with only 65,000 miles on the clock. The exterior was mint, the interior has basically mint except for a few scrathes on the leather and dash, and it was totally stock- a chance for a clean slate. My mind was quickly flooded with memories of my blasting down interstates at 100-mph plus in my old FD. Out of impulse, I bought it then and there for 10g's. Of course, rent was due that month, and this month was also my girlfriends b-day. After blowing 10 grand, I didn't have the money either (I bearly made rent, but luckily my land lord was a nice guy) and my girl ended up breaking up with me because I spent every waking moment I wasn't at school or work with the new FD. I ended up doing a few aftermarket mods, such as a boost controller, rims, short throw shifter, exhaust, downpipe, intake, and a BNR engine replaced at when the stock apex seals went to hell (which was days after me buying it. The guy who sold it to me did tell me it was running rough and might break down at any moment, though).
While working for only $6.80 an hour and not getting too many hours, I had a choice: eat or have the FD. I decided being homeless and hungry was worse than life without the FD (it was close though). I had to sell her. So I sold her for,- get this- $21,500 bucks! The new BNR rotary had only 5,000 miles on it, which was a great selling point, and I had only put roughly 3 grand into the thing since I bough it. So out of pocket for me- 13 grand, sold for 21,500, that's an $8,500 PROFIT. The first car I ever owned that actually "appreciated". Well I bought a '99 Civic hatchback for a gas sipper and used that for a while before I decided the stock B16 wasn't goo enough and I had to go faster, which wouldn't happen easily- at least cheaply- in a Civic.
I finally graduated from Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics last year and got a job with as a mechanic with an airlines and relocated to the Arizona, Phoniex area. After making substatially more money, I could finally afford an FD, not to mention I live where I can now use it virtually year-round!
So now I'm on my third FD in 2 1/2 or so years. This one is a real gem. She's a '94 Touring, Vintage Red, that was owned by a 74-year old man! It has only 21,350 miles on the clock (all original), and is completely bone stock. He even had a records of repairs, even oil changes and even his freaken gas recipets! She had been in Arizona all her life, so no chance of rust, and she had never seen rain (obviously no snow). He had her garaged her whole life almost, only using her on special occasions. Let me tell you this baby is MINT. I remember going the Mazda showrooms in 1993 with my dad and looking at the brand-spaken new RX-7's. This one the old guy owned is ever better than those! It was repainted in 2000 the original factory red, and has had the oil changed every 1,000 miles. He said he never raced it, dropped the clutch, or even took it past 5,000 RPM! I bought her for a stout $19,800 bucks, but she is worth every penny. I just got her home in my tiny garage and waxed her for about 2 hours after washing her. I conditioned the leather, used plastic cleaner on the dash, busted out some wheel clean and tire shiner, and some metal polish. I swear I detailed her for 5 hours straight- the exterior, interior, engine, wheels/tires, even the undercarriage. Although she was already so clean when I got her there was no need, but I did make her look a little better .
Now I'm back in the money pit. I have already compiled a shopping list of mods I want, including a Petit intake, downpipe, Apexi exhaust, and a GReddy T-78 single turbo kit with front-mounted intercooler, '99 Japan Spec front end conversion, '99 Japan Spec rear wing, and a mazdaspeed short-throw shifter kit. A bigger, better audio setup is also in the future. Of course, more mods to be added to that list.
BTW: I still have my Civic HB for a daily driver. Maybe I'll rip out the Alpine sound system from that and put it in the FD .
Thanks if you read it, I know it was a long post, sorry. I'm just so happy! Oh well, later tonight I'm gonna go out and cruise to pick up some chicks. Arizona heat does have one good advantage- scantly-clad sexy women are all over the place!

Enjoy Mill Ave.!! You should do well with a FD there in Tempe. ( If you are in that area)
Welcome back to the real world too! Glad to hear your priorities are straight. Food, roof, FD, all else is secondary!! Have fun down there. There is a group that meets in the phoenix area and cruises up to Prescott and other places up north and Cooler than Phoenix! I will try to find his name on the forum.
