Ignition problem. you gotta help me!

so i have a turbo timer on my 93 tt rx7 i just bought the car so i didn't wire it up. i think its a Hks type 0. everything was working fine until i took it out today came home and turned the key off to let the the turbos cool. as it was counting down, around the steering column/ wiring for the ignition switch and turbo timer, it started to smoke pretty bad and its smelled electrical. so i turned the car off. now it wont start. i turn the key it doesn't crank or anything everything else turns on fine and the timer works fine. the engine doesn't crank at all... nothing. im wondering if the ignition switch burned up or something. any ideas?

i called the guy who i bought the car from and he said it had done it to him a couple times in the past and that he waited a while and it worked fine again. i waited pretty much all day and tried several times threw out the day and still no start. i jumped it on a coast and it runs fine everything works good.

what the hell is going on. im gonna try it in the morning, but i need to get it fixed as soon as possible. thanks everyone for the help.

If you smelled wires burning then you have a serious short and should not drive the car until root cause is found. I could go on and on, but don't take a chance and burn your car down, start troubleshooting for the source of the smell.
