Idles At 1000 Rpms And Surges In Gear

Does this just sound like the idle needs adjustment via the idle adjust screw? The car drives fine other than this.

idles at 1,000 RPMS and when you put the MT in gear it hops between 800 and 1200.

Any ideas would be appreciated. THanks

That's what it sounds like to me... However, what mods are done to the car?

basically stock.

FMIC, DP, and CAT-back are the only performance upgrades i've done.

i redid the vacuum lines and radiator is a koyo... some A/M guages, and thats it.

I just got it running, and this is where it sits in terms of driveablity, after a few other kinks were worked out. The idle has been consistant though.

Thanks.

I'm going to defer to someone that has more experience with RX7s that aren't running a pfc already. Sorry I can't help more. I really don't want to steer you in the direction.

That is quite alright, I appreciate the fact that you responded, period. So thank you for your help. If I have time, tonight I will attempt to set the idle screw and see if that clears it up. I also have an oxygen sensor to throw in.

THanks again.

One more question though, is it hunting when the clutch pedal is pushed in?

Yes, I wouldn't put it past myself to have left a vacuum line off somewhere...

I already checked the TPS off the list, its good.

Not to negate you, I am simply asking because I don't fully understand the system:

Wouldn't the clutch switch effect it in any gear postition inncluding N?

pushing the clutch down alone does not cause the idle to bounce. Putting it in gear does. Does the idle bouncing sound like its related to the high idle?

Im pretty confident that i beleive its your clutch switch (theres a little plunger type switch under the pedal that detects when you have the clutch pedal pressed to the floor or released fully) common fault on the switch is for the spring to break and so the switch doesnt fully depress (dont worry about all the reasoning why it affects ilde and stuff is has to do with another sensor in the gearbox and idle control blah blah blah),,, mine did same thing its an easy fix with a pen spring,,, ill find u a link to fix it easy no expense,,,:-)

The 1000 rpm idle probably wants just turning down a little with the idle screw.

Just to give credit where its due, Tiger18 - You are absolutely correct. At least it would make perfect sense. The little rubber deal on the clutch pedal that depresses the clutch switch fell off. and I have been starting it with my finger, so when I am pushing on the clutch the switch is sitting open circuit. LoL. Awsome.

THanks everyone. I love resolutions of probelems.
