Idle and vacuum issue
Hey guys, got a problem. I was out on the highway the other night putting my car thru it's paces and it developed an exhaust leak. It didn't idle right and would barely start. I got the exhaust leaks fixed (burnt the gaskets at each end of the down pipe) and it seems to be a little better but it still idles rougher than normal. Also my vacuum reading used to be about 20 at idle and now it around 12, once I shift from one gear to another the vacuum level seems to go back to 20. The car also has a hard time taking off from a stand still, poor throttle response. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. In my neck of the woods I don't have to many shops that can work on a rotary except the dealer. Thanks.

Well, you either popped off the map sensor hose, or you blew an apex seal. The map sensor is on the firewall (driver's side) and should have a vacuum hose connected to the bottom. If that is still connected, then you need to get a compression test.

Why not look at some of the tutorials on clubrx, he's got an instructional on how to take the upper intake manifold off. you should take it off and start testing for vacuum leaks with a pressure gauge.

I wouldn't bother removing the UIM until you rule out the 2 things I suggested. The map sensor hose is easy. Its in plain view, and takes 30 seconds to rule out. Its fairly easy to do the compression check as well. Once you determine that you have good compression, and the map sensor hose is in place, then you can move on to the rats nest.
I would also strongly recommend that you don't take it to a dealer. In the event that you can't fix the problem on your own, then I would suggest finding a reputable rotary shop. The dealer is just not the best place to take it.

Check all of your vacuum lines not just the map sensor. I blew off the line that goes to the oil filler line and the car idled like ****. I thought I blew my motor until I looked under the hood. Look for that stuff first before you take it to a dealer and get hosed for $100 when all it was was a vacuum line. Good luck.

All the hoses (I can get at) look in good shape, no cracks, leaks etc. Gonna do a compression test hopefully tomorrow if I can squeeze it in. Keep you guys posted. Thanks.
