Right now my car is idling aroud 800 but the idle is very rough when i start my car. The idle jumps to 3000 then falls slowly down to 800 and bounces up and down between 700 and 800 for a while intil it stables out. What could be ther problem? i was thinking of raising my idle and seeing how that works because when i got the car back in 00' the idle was at 1200 and it worked perfectly well until i got my new ported built engine and lowered my idle for smog check.

 

When it jumps to 3000rpm, this could be the AWS kicking in. If you start it in gear, this will disable the AWS (accelaration warmp-up system). When I start mine, its jumps to about 2000rpm then goes down slowly... and sometimes jumps between 1100 - 1400rpm... not sure what the cause for this is. Help anyone?

 

Im def not a pro, but isnt 1200 a bit high? 800 - 700 sounds just right from what i can remember reading. I think my car idles low. When its warmed up it will idle at a consistant 500 sometimes 400, and 900 if the AC is on (dunno if thats good).

 

I'm pretty sure normal idle is around 800 rpm so what your at right now should be fine. Maybe it's different because of the ported engine, but I'm really not sure in regards to that.
