idle problems

ok i have a wacky idle problem. the car starts to idle at 200o then i shoos up to 2500 then back down to 2000 then back up to 2500. I disconnect the map sensor and the idle gose down to 1000 and stays there. But with the Map sensor connected it goes back to that pattern before. The map sensor is good cause i switched it out with one of my buddies cars. I have messed it the base idle a bit and that dosent seem to help. I am really confused. Got any ideas what might be wrong?
Thanks Marc

First I would clean the throttle body , and see if the plates (butterflies) are shutting correctly. check the gasket for air leaks, start it back up and adjust the air screw on the bottom of the throttle body. also check the ajustment screw for the hot wax rod for fast idle
