idle problem (sorta)

My 7 has a "smogport" from rotary power so when i heard it was ported it was normal for the car to shake. Then i met some people who had the same porting as me but their cars were much smoother. What can cause this? They mentioned that it could be a vacuum leak. Also could this be related to my problem wit the secondary turbo. It only boosts like 6 psi. Could a clogged cat be a reasonable problem for the low boost?

Btw...If i order a downpipe, will i be fine with the stock ecu and the ported motor? My only other mod is an exhaust. Some people on the forum have said its not a good idea, but jeff at rotary power said that i'd be fine. Whos right? Thanks in advance for the help.

When the motor shakes like hell, there is a good chance you might have a vac leak. Check out all your lines, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the ones you can get your hands on. If you really feel up to it, call Hose Techniques and order the complete kit, and replace every hose on the motor.

As far as the DP, this is usually one the best reliability mods for the FD. That cat is so close to the turbos, stays so damn hot, that it often does go bad. Running a DP is not a big problem, just don't take out the midpipe cat until you have some control over the computer, and preferably some fuel upgrades as well.

Now, this is just my personal view, and am relatively new to this, but after rebuilding my own car, and all the research that went into that, I feel rather confident about this. Besides, if I am wrong, I know that someone on here will try to correct me. Good luck, PM me if you have any more probs, or need help.

No one can tell you that a downpipe will fix it for sure. However, a downpipe is a good mod for the car as the pre-cat is basically a little nuclear reactor under the hood.

People on this forum can make suggestions as to what the problem may or may not be, but it's up to you to actually do the troubleshooting work to narrow down the problem area.
