Idle problem

Upon turning the key and initially starting my FD the idle shoots way up to 3,000 RPMs, give it a little bit of gas and it calms back down to right around 1,000 RPMs. A friend of mine suggested it could be the idle control valve sensor, any input is appreciated. Thanks.

This is normal, it is the cold start feature to help accelerate the warm up of the engine.... But as you have already learned, blipping the throttle disables it!

Start the car in 1st gear. That will also disable the AWS feature.

Obviously with the clutch pressed in, then when the car has started, put it back to neutral and release clutch.

I been doing this since first ownership of my car.

This could have been how I was starting it and never noticed the AWS feature.
