I know you mentioned "stock fuel", does that include a stock fuel pump or aftermarket fuel pump?

now when you say 40psi at idle is that with the vacuum hose connected or not? that's high if it's connected. To properly set base fuel pressure, get the car running with the vacuum hose to the FPR connected, then disconnect it at the easiest place, set pressure to desired level, then reconnect the line.

edit: you might have to put that 50% back in

not gonna be enough, not even close, you're gonna need a higher flowing fuel pump, an adjustable FPR (aeromotive or similar), and probably 1600cc secondaries at minimum.

yeah to get drive the car on the streets with some boost you def. need a fuel system upgrade! But to get the engine running right without serious boost you dont... the car should be able to rev with the stock fuel system in neutral without backfire or hesitation! .... And i think the mapping is too lean throughout!

I had a similiar problem with my old honda prelude! converted to ITB's and ran a miata fuel pressure regulator as i thought it would increase fuel pressure ... instead it decreased and the car wouldnt even rev up at WOT it would just stall ... had backfire... etc. etc.! ... ist not hard to check just increase some fuel % and check if it gets any better... if not then thats not your problem!

How much vacuum is the engine pulling at idle? What is the idle speed?

Have you ever tuned a ported motor before?

Are you running 10 cold range spark plugs?? I think those could contribute to the problem. Are you on stock ignition too?

Try returning to the stock spark plug set up, 7s and 9s

idle fuel pressure should be around 32psi, I think the FSM says 28-32, replace that vacuum line and secure it with sip ties, you may need to replace the FPR

I've got a stock FPR if you want another one, other wise just order an adjustable one and redo your fuel system so you can run that turbo at its efficiency instead of just babying it around because you don't have the fuel mods to support it.
