Idle Air Control Sensor

Currently my 93 won't start. It cranks over but wont start and someone is telling me that its because my idle air control sensor is bad. When the car stopped running at 0830 in the morning and at 1130 the same morning it wouldn't start anymore. Right now all I know is that the sensor is bad. Any help would be appreciated.

How do you know it's bad?

Usually, most sensors in this car won't cause the car not to start but rather just run poorly once started.

What modifications have been done to your car? Is there a check engine light on?
