Ok so I went and visited a client for work today and as I was leaving the mall I saw a silver FD parked up with the bonnet up. I pulled up alongside and asked if he was ok. The little asian guy said that the "intercooler" was leaking water so I had a look and informed him that the intercoolers dont hold water and that it looked to be the radiator or a hose. I had a feel around and found the area of the leak but could not find the problem as there was too much crap in the way. I explained that I too owned an FD but was hard to get through as they were speaking broken english (asian). I asked him if he would like to bring it to my friends workshop about a minutes drive away so I could put it on the hoist for him and find what is wrong with it.

This is where I get annoyed.
The guy basically replied that he was just dropping his sister off and that he lived close so it was ok and he would just keep putting water in it. I explained that if he didnt fix the leak that he would kill it due to overheating and that I didnt mind helping him out at my mates workshop. I again explained that I owned a similar car but he still refused my help, I was stumped!! Here I was offering to help a complete stranger, not only had he turned me down but he started to get what seemed annoyed with me. No it ok he kept saying ,i just keep put water in it he says. I was like look, IF YOU DONT FIX IT YOU WILL KILL IT! By this stage I was getting annoyed and figured that there is just no helping some people. I walked back to my van frustrated but at least I tried, I hope he kills it and has to sell it cheap so a decent person could own it and take care of it!

Well thats my vent for the day.

well, he does not know you. so y do u think he will follow you? beside that, i believe he did the right thing by reject your help. ( Think about it, if a random person come up to you and says the same things to you. what are u going to do? are you going to believe the information that he say to you and then follow him to his friend's shop? I don't think so. CAUSE you might end up into a danger zone! )

The ethnicity helps nothing to the story. I could have understood it without it. Some people like to specify which ethnicity is "stupid or needs to get shot?"

Freudian slip as to his own personal prejudices? Either way, I wouldn't have taken your help either. I don't trust anyone but myself with my car.

 

I think it was the inability to speak English properly, not the fact that he was Asian. A guy can be green or purple for all I care.

 

There are lots of stupid FD owners. A few minutes on this forum proves it beyond any doubt.

I'm not saying the guy with the leaking FD was (or was not) an idiot. He probably had someone else that he wanted to look at the car.

WORD. Im asian and I cant stand it when im trying to explain something in plain english and they wont listen/understand or when there is a problem and the extent of thier explainations usually start and end with "Yu Knoe?"

 

it helps you feel the communication barrier he had with the person, especially at the part where he says "but was hard to get through as they were speaking broken english"

 

see, broken English would have been enough. German English, Spanish, Indian, Asian, Australian, New Zealander, etc., etc. Get my drift? By singling out a race it makes the reader apprehensive as to the real reason for the frustration of the writer. Plus, it's extra typing, kinda useless.

You are being overly influenced by PC if his mention of the person's ethnicity stuck out enough that you felt inclined to comment. I wouldn't be offended if an Asian told a story about me, which included a statement like: "he was a white guy who didn't know any Japanese, so it was difficult for us to understand each other." You know why I wouldn't be offended? I'M A ******* WHITE GUY. It's not racist or wrong to itentify people for what they are.

What's next? Are you going to say: "I saw a really hot person at the mall. I'm not going to let you know their gender though, becuase I might offend someone..."

Hey all thanks for your replies. Just for the record I am neither racist nor impatient when it comes to speaking to people from other countries as I have to deal with them on a daily basis for work. When i pulled up I was in a fully sign written van with logo's etc and my phone number all over it so its not like i looked dodgy, I dress well when at work and I am very polite so from my point of veiw i dont see why he might have been scared of a 5.9' european kiwi driving a van with security camera signage all over it. This is also New Zealand so car jacking isnt really a happening thing I was just trying to be a good guy and help someone out.
From what I could gather he didnt care about the car, I guess thats what got me started.
