(Chuckle...) You are right, of course; I like that v-mount. Rotary Extreme is one of the few places still doing innovative work for 7's (unlike some, who after coming out with a good product X years ago, do nothing constructive for the community, spending all their effort sniping at everything that comes after... not mentioning any names here).

However, if the criteria is performance/dollar, XSPOWER would seem hard to beat. I'm a cheap bastard.

The real problem is that XSPOWERs seem to have disappeared from EBAY. The last listing for one was pulled early Oct 21. Hope they come back.

Anyway, taking the extra time to make sure the new duct supports the stock airbox and batt would maximize the number of customers, and would give the Greddy SMIC some reason to exist now that the XSPOWER SMIC is available for so cheap. Hint, hint...

This is so cool that I'm putting in my order for the XSPOWER duct without even owning that SMIC! I'll just keep it around in case I want to upgrade someday.
My custom duct does fit between the OEM airbox and battery box. The Greddy SMIC is the tight component and while it does fit, the stock routing of AST hoses must be moved or risk getting pinched

Look, I am sorry some people are complaining about my lack of promptly providing ducts. I used this forum to show pictures of a duct that I made for myself and I asked the opinion on desirability of such a product if I made one for sale. I have never agree to provide to any person a CF duct at such and such a price by such and such a date, when I can commit I will.

I did get enough responses to decide that I would go ahead and make a few, time permitting. I have not asked and did not plan to ask for a dime on deposit .. just make some, sell some, ship some and see how it goes. I have ordered the material to make a batch and will make some and sell to those that need them and can pay for them at that time that I offer them. In the mean time, make one yourself if you need it today; you can refer to my own posts on thinks to consider or what out for.

making car parts is not my job, or my hobby. 1st comes my family, 2nd comes my job of designing and selling offshore oil drilling rigs in the international market, 3rd comes my and my sons hobby of road racing, time trialing and auto-crossing my FB and FD, 4th comes keeping my FD running well, 5th comes helping others keep their RX-7's going, 6th comes my other sports cars and racing my sailboat ... last comes trying to break even making a quality part for the FD that Greddy should have provided in the first place.

I am currently working on a Duct for the Greddy SMIC. It will be polished aluminum. Looking great so far, and may be within the $200 range.

How will you prevent heatsoak of the aluminum duct since it sits right above the radiator?

Looks like the guy that was going to let me use his Greddy SMIC to make a mold from wont be able to. So unless I have a volunteer, I wont be doing it.

It would have been between $80 and $150 depending on a couple options.

I have a lead on a volunteer at the moment. I am interested in doing this, but my time from now until early January is pretty much full. I will find out if I can do it in the next month or two and get back to you guys.

I think TwinTurbo_SE7EN has gone out of the duct-making business. His group buy did not go according to plan.

Modify your stock duct. It's, like, super easy. Fiberglass or some really really simple sheetmetal work. Tin snips and a rivet gun should get you through this. Estimated project cost: $50(if you need to buy tools).

Anyway, I had the prototype made and did a test fit. That's where I ran into some fitment issues (you'd think after all these years I'd have learned to measure correctly , reverse engineering is so FUN!). The A/C bracket (the mounting tab portion) hits the side of the new duct and does not allow a good fit, that and I actually wanted to open the fuse cover that is mounted on the front cross member. That along with the mounting angle of the IC itself caused an additional issue. I have since modified the design to take into account these problems. Since my plan is to still use the STL version as a working prototype I decided to add some internal stiffeners to addreess some of the concerns raised here about the possibility of the part deforming due to heat soaking. The ABS material being used has a thermal deflection temperature of 210 Degrees at 264 PSI and 230 Degrees at 66 PSI (well above the loading expected for the part, since its primary fuction is to direct air to the IC and not be a load bearing support).

I should have the new part next week sometime. But I'll be on the road again, so it will probably be a few weeks before I can report anything. I'll let everyone know how it works out.
Richard did you ever finish this project?
I t was a long time ago... can i get a copy of your last 3d model for the duct so i can compare it to mine and make one?

I searched for hours for a replacement core for the re amemiya intercooler, fnalley found one at bell intercoolers (pn: A450123080) so would be nice to have the stl to have a starting point. Id like to print the mould in pieces and cover w CF
