I think I just gained respect for my car

Even though it is on the side of some road getting all dirty, I found the problem. And I should be able to drive it back home soon. The upper radiator hose had a gash in it. I am not sure why this happend... maybe the hose was just old. Does anyone know of stainless steel braided hose I can put in its place? The hose is pretty big and seems to be bent in a certain way. I also saw three 3rd Gens while out there looking at it. One honked at me.

Chris

So it overheated on you? Sorry to hear about your misfortunes, but at least you may be able to put your problems behind you, at least for awhile! Now other than my a/c I have been having a big bucking problem and a clunk in the suspension. There's always something!

Well it didn't overheat to the point of any damage. I just saw the temp gauge rise so I pulled over right away and turned the car off. If I overheated and blew my rebuild I think I would have cried.

Don't know about a braided hose, but rx7.com has the stock replacement set for $37.95. If you find something better please let us know, as I'd like to replace the hoses when I drop in a new radiator next year.

Just did some searching.

Interesting - http://schlagheck.com/rx7/projects/sshoses.html

Very cool, but pricey, and who knows if it would fit - http://www.coolflex.com

Silicone hoses might be neat - http://www.samcosport.com

Apparently the upper radiator hose is a problem with a lot of 7's cause I hear of it splitting a lot. I would go with the steel braided line myself.

Woohooo!!!! got the car running strong and back home. No damage to the engine. I just put a stock one back in there for now. Got some touch up paint too while at the mazda parts store. I was looking at the coolflex hoses though. They look nice but are like $150. I would rather put that money towards my boost problem right now. OH... when I was looking around on the web I found this, made exactly for the FD3S.

http://www.takakaira.com/php/table.php3?id=411&cat=2

They are like 180$ but at least you know they will fit. I still think the coolflex hose would be nicer... but wouldn't buy it without asking them how it could fit.
