If you buy a 7 and go out and start beating it to death you will be just another one of the people that I meet everyday that say "Oh yeah a friend of mine had one of those. Looks cool but it runs like ****!" Go buy something new (with a warranty) for the $20K you have to spend.

oh well. If he doesnt listen buys the car and blows it completely up all of our FD s will be that more rare. I dont want it to happen, but, oh well. Look, earthquakerider, if you dont know what you are buying (can you explain how a rotary engine works? Do you even know that there are no pistons under the hood of a 3rd gen RX-7? etc?) Otherwise the ar will die under you and you will probably blame it. If you cant be swayed, please spend a lot of time on this forum. If you dont post and just read a lot you will learn everything you want to know relatively quickly. Also, check out the search function...

true... and don't buy the car "just because" you are looking for a fast car to buy.. have a real love for the car and only get it if you are so set on it that you would do just about anything for it... Because there will be times when the car will **** you off probably..

And one more dead kid i might add . Anyways, do what you want. Don't let us hold you back. We are actually the nicer pack out there when compared to ohter forums. We are just looking out for you and all the other poorly abused FD's out there .

Oh, the humanity.....Give me a ******' break! If he does break her, his Mommy and Daddy will just buy him another "toy"! People that are just handed things in life don't appreciate **** and use and abuse everything that the rest of us have to actually earn. I'm 28 and I guess I'm from a different generation. You know, one with a work ethic. Ah, maybe I shouldn't flame everyone under 25....I just get tired of seeing the same old crap!

HAHAHAHAHA!!!! A reversed BOV?!!!! HAHAHAHAH, did he also hook a hairdryer up to his intake manifold and turn it full blow on cold?!!!!

As for the honeycomb thingy, I know!!! It's a SPIRALMAX!!! I've heard those things add 100 horsepower from spinning the air as it goes through your air filter!!

Seriously, the FD3S is not some car you can just get into and pound the **** out of it like an Integra or Civic just cause you want to be cooler than your friends. It's an "enthusiast's" car. Meaning, you have to expect the quirks of the car and be **** with preventative maintenance. Just get yourself a Impreza or RSX and save yourself the unneeded stress since it looks like you only have a grand to play with.

Marcus, I agree.

As for earthquakerider...
and anoter thing if i could afford a zo6 i would get but im only 17 so i have a few more years to go before i get into those cars
17!! **** when I was that age I was driving a 1970 orange VW super beetle! Times have certainly changed.

I have owned 3 other 7's. 2 first gen's and a 89 TII. I'm 35 with a mortgage, kids, three other cars, bills, career, school loans blah blah blah..... I've been on this forum as a newbie for about 2 months now. I'm still looking for my first 3rd Gen. I'll most likely research it for a few more months. I suggest you save that 20K, and get yourself a honda civic hf. But if you really are concerned about beating your buddies go out and get a used gsxr 1100 and go spank the **** out of themall'!

Good luck...from the old guy.

No to spoil the party. but did you guys think about it? This kid doesn't have the car yet and he's already thinking racing other cars. Does it strike you all that he should learn how to handle the FD first? You know powerful RWD is not an easy thing to handle. I would hate to see another FD gone. We have a lot nice one gone recently.

at 17 I was driving an old cutlass ciera. If I had the FD then I WOULD have died! If you do really get this car please learn as much about it as you can. You also said you would never go to the track and would only race on the street. Please reverse that for all of our sakes. You need the track time to know what to do if you do lose it. I am just a 24 year old that has lost some friends in car wrecks. Take my words for what you want.

LEARN the car first ...

earthquakerider, if you do get this amazing vehicle (which i think you're going to do regardless of what any of us have to say), spend the time "doing your homework." this is not going to be like your friends' SS or Mustang or NSX for that matter. you will NOT be able to beat on this car and not have to pay the piper. this is not to discourage you ...

FD's have incredible potential ... let me say that again, potential. it all goes to waste if you don't spend the time to know the car and know your limitations as a driver.

read up on this forum (use the friggin' search function ... it's awesome) and then go to rob robinette's website and some other links from there. then, if or when you do get this car, spend some time in empty parking lots and open roads (hopefully cop-free ) and learn how to drive it. things like getting a feel for the power band and double-clutching will benefit you in the long run. i speak from personal experience ... i got spanked by a supra b/c i didn't know to double-clutch to avoid the 5th gear synchro problem on my '93 (and if i was a less capable driver, i might have spun my car out @ 130+mph !)

anyways, just my $0.02. i hope you do the right thing and enjoy the car. it's so good, i'm trying to get my hands on another one.

peace out, yo.

With the FD RX-7, it always seems to me that I put in just as much wrench time as I do race time. Always something breaking/fixing/upgrading.

I know my car with it's mods would SPANK the poo-poo out of all those cars, but I've had some exceptionally smart people help me with my car(Dragon/Igy/Rutt/FDOkinawa/Sleeper SR20 ) and without learning the quirks, you'll end up blowing your engine like so many other people(Brian K. hint hint) and end up blaming it on the car.

I wouldn't trade my car in for anything(...maybe a $1,000,000 so I can go buy a stock FD and modify the **** out of it)...but she's like just like a high maintenance girlfriend...

You guys dont have much expierence with 2G eclipse i see. "Reversing his BOV" means he capped off the end of one of his intake pipes that his BOV was supposed to connect to and now the BOV just blows off in atmosphere. It helps a little bit and makes it a lot louder. The honeycomb is kinda dangerous but helps also. Im not sure on the specs of that mod, but i know some people that have it. BTW: Eclipses can be fast with minimal mods. I have seen a GST with intake,BOV,Exhaust and IC Piping run a 13.9. Its a 14.9 car stock.

Oh I see... I still think if this guy gets a 3rd gen he will have him if he can drive.. Is the honeycomb thing removing the screening from the intake? I know I have a friend that has a 2nd gen eclipse and he removed some kind of screening that was in a mass air flow meter or something like that. My friend has a AWD 2ng gen with all of the above listed except for the intercooler and was pushing like 18 psi until his turbo went bye bye.. I tell you what even at 18psi, it didn't feel like a 3rd gen..

Black99-

Yeah its inside MAS. 2G eclipses can be quite powerfull, but...they usually dont pull as hard as a REX. They can however smash u off the line, and if they are somewhat modded, it will be difficuly to catch them in a stock FD. But with simple mods, the FD will catch and pass the Eclipse easy.

yeah the honeycomb is from the MAF sensor, it does what our MAP sensor does except it measures the air flow at the intake instead of after the intercooler. what removing the honeycomb does is let umetered air in. that is, the computer does not know that it is there therefore leaning out the mixture. it usualy makes the car run like crap at idle if you take out quite a bit of it unless he has S-AFC which will solve that little problem. some of my freinds at school have DSM's so I guess im in on the lingo.

JESUS CHRIST, i cannot believe my eyes actually saw this post. If this kid gets a FD or any rex for that matter i'll **** a brick. i've seen this wayyy to many times, some kid with no automotive brains talks his parents into getting him a nice car so he can trash it. bad enough to see these kids driving piston cars but rotory??? kiss another performance car goodbye to stupidity. but yeah black99 you are right that the 2nd gen guys tend to use a lot of 1st gen parts cause the whole car was basically better. and i mean from the exhaust manifold to the rods. and the guy (forgot his name) said in the last post about the hex shaped mass air flow i'm not sure if that's what it is but that's the only thing that would be like that. my friend has a 92 tsi awd that by spring time will be needing a roll bar for the strip and what he is doing is he is using a ported exhaust from a lancer evo as they are HUGE. (stock 2nd gen is 6 cm squared with small exhaust ports and the 1st gen has a little bigger ports but the lancer has a 7 cm that can be/was bored to 8 and has huge ports) so i guess he's why i know a thing-or-two about dsm's
Nick

(oh by the way, if the guy who started this thread get's pissed at me for calling him a spoiled kid -- i'm 14, pay for my ****, and my experience isn't from books. )

most likely if you get a rx7 it will not be boosting properly maybe robbing you 100hp. SO first thing to do is get it reunnign right. You can check boosting with boost gauge. Don;t race anyone untill then, you will just emberass youself.

cheers
