Thumbs up I love FD's. New cars blow. End of Story.

I've been reading these forums for two years and i've yearned for this car for way too long. And no matter what 500 hp egg shaped cars appear out of manufactures' asses, the FD will always be my favorite car. Why ? ****, I don't even know myself. I don't even own one. But I feel the soul. Just something I can't explain; when I get in and drive its just amazing.

Anyhoo, a random blip from me that I've been meaning to get out. Holla if you feel me.

I have to agree even without Z06 version the new vettes rock!

Besides some of these new age rockets, the 4 door kind handle nearly as well run and run in the 12's. Hell the SRT Magnum runs in the 11's how humiliating would that be...

The sad thing is, although the younger crowd generally respects the FD (and buys them and rices them, too), there will come a day when I'll look like that guy with the '82 Firebird driving around and everyone will look at him and say "wow, that guy got lost in the wrong decade"

Then another 10 years will go by and people will drool all over again like they are for 70s' vettes and Chargers.

Don't worry Dave. That only happened to the guys that got stuck in the 80's. Besides, the FD was so far ahead of it's time styling-wise, that it will take a long time to catch up. Here's a good way to tell. Sell, your RX-7 and about six months later - 2 years later when you see one on the road, let me know what thought passes through your mind.

Insiders at the factory are saying that the "Blue Devil C6 Z06" probably wont be built now. But reports are saying that the regular Z06 is said to be making closer to 550hp instead of 505...Thats just gnarly out of an NA small block.\

Ill definetly give these guys the respect they deserve on the road.

i'de say so, only nice things are the rims and the power for a NA car. Corrvette's and mustangs and all the jazz is becomeing the common day ***** for sports cars. you look at almost every corrvette other than the first gnes they all look so freaking similar to me whats the point of owning one? same with Vipers, they all look the same, only slight differences. and the new mustang? wow really nice "Retro" style tobad the cheap price means every person with $5000 in their pocket can get one on finaceing, good looking car, but too many people own them, to many people with no life trying to look cool, ya i'de drive anyof them, but i'de rather be seen driving a RX-7 FD 3S then those other peices of machinery, but thats me and my 2 45/64 cents about the whole thing.

Anything over 400cu inches is a big block. Still impressive.

FD's are cool because the styling wont age anytime soon or ever and its rare..

but the new cars out now are better in terms of practicality, having a warranty, being reliable etc etc..

some people will disagree, i can see it now..

sorry man, but that is just not true. Good try though. It is still a small block. The displacement doesnt really have much to do with the size of the block itself other then the obvious that bigger BLOCKS can have larger sized cylinders and more displacement.

Exactly, many of GM's previous 400ci blocks were smallblock, even some 427's they produced were still cosidered smallblocks.

It relates to external dimensions of the block only, nothing to do with cylinder dimensions.

My favorite example is the ford 351 cubic inch Windsor, it's smallblock
And the Ford 351 cubic inch Cleveland, it's a bigblock

Thanks. You saved me from having to explain that. I love how people just post things and say is so matter of fact...When theyre wrong.

the heads determine whether its a small or big block.not cubic inches...nothing to do with that

what I mean is yes of course the block is bigger but they're bigger in order to accomodate huge heads....and therefore do have more displacement because like the guy stated above a bigger block is naturally going to have more room for bigger pistons....

hell yeah brother, i feel exactly the same way, i've been reading on these forums for a little over a year... maybe more and i feel EXACTLY the same. Everything about the FD is beautiful, and i don't think they'll ever age. They will always be rare, beautiful, and unique.

For those who rice them out, yeah it sucks... but it just makes the ones who don't look that much better.

One day i will hope to own one.... probably after i get out of college. They'll be vintage by than

<3 the FD

I may be wrong, but i dont think that the blocks were made bigger to accomodate bigger heads. Im pretty sure they were bigger blocks to accomodat bigger cylinders and thus more displacement. Obviously if the block is bigger, the heads are going to be bigger to match the size of the block.

My understanding of the difference between "big" blocks and "small" blocks is the distance between bore centers. Since the overall dimensions of the Chevy "small" block have been unchanged since it's introduction back in the 50's as a 327, the size of the block or the size of the cylinder heads can't have much to do with the designation "big" or "small".
