This is my inaugural car mod! I think one of my secondaries is leaking, so I installed some piece-of-mind until I can get the occasional fuel smell problem fixed. Just click the picture for a full-size image. You might just want to right-click and select "save target as" so you can browse as you download.

Check your pulsation dampener, this is the most common problem resulting in a "fuel smell" and it WILL cause an engine fire if untreated. Never hurts to have a fire extinguisher, but better to never have to use it. Btw, nice car

You REALLY should not drive the car until the source of your "fuel smell" is located and fixed. Many a 3rd gen was destroyed by fuel related fires early on due to problems with hoses. Easy to locate and cheap to fix. Don't delay.
By the time you stop, grab your extinguisher, open your door, pop the hood and IF you can get close enough to release the safety catch it will be too late. Don't forget to bring marshmallows. Quite frankly the extinguisher you have mounted is worthless in terms of capacity and quality. Unless it has a steel (not plastic) neck it will absolutely leak when it gets to be 140F in the interior of your car in the Florida summer heat. It's barely adequate to sit under your kitchen sink. If you are going to buy an extinquisher get Halon, it costs quite a bit more but is exceptionally good at putting out fires in enclosed places - like your interior. They also come in chrome which actually looks pretty nice, or if you are really thrifty, there is always spray paint....
There was a recall on fuel lines and if it has not been done on your car any Mazduh dealer is still required to fix it for you. There should be a sticker on the driver's side door or under hood indicating it was done. You can also call Mazduh with your VIN and they can tell you if it has been done. I do not recommend taking your car to a Mazduh dealer for ANY other reason. They will screw it up really bad.
Hope this helps, although bbq'd noob tastes pretty good! I always like them with a little Chianti!

LOL @ 94touring!
RonKMiller:
I haven't smelled any fuel for over a week and all the recalls have been done to date. I just drove it for about 40 minutes and did a little boosting above 4500rpm and I still didn't smell any fuel when I sniffed around the UIM. I'm pretty sure that one of my secondaries has a cracked o-ring. Are those o-rings hard to replace? Remember, I have no auto mechanic experience, but I consider myself a quick learner and I have a lot of tools to use at my convenience. I picked this extinguisher up at a hardware store. If I find that it's leaking, then I will surely get the Halon and tell everyone that NOS is for n00bs.
