I have a question about AST

I have read many diffrent articles on the AST and it's use. I thought it was added because of the radiator being laid down. Is this true? If so I have moved mine to the upright position for a front mount intercooler so is it still nescesary? I got from reading the diffrent posts that it is used to remove the airbubbles from the coolant. Is this still a big problem with the upright radiator. I have been a 2nd gen owner for quite a few years,This is my first 3rd gen. Thankyou in advance for any help!

Wink

Let me put it this way, many stock and single turbo FDs run perfectly without the AST. But it is like synthectic oil or religion, some believe in it and some don't.

FBs and 1986-1988 FCs did not have an AST.

Make your own decision based upon you beliefs.

vertical radiator, no AST needed.

cewrx7r1 is correct.

I have a stock mounted radiator and run without the AST.

this is one Mazduh item I have retained on the car, I think it actually serves it's intended purpose (of course I have a custom aluminum version )

the 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra R has an AST...the radiator was a vertical mount unit.

Thankyou all for the answers. I have a aftermarket Ast and a stock one but I don't want to use either if I don't have to. I have switched to the single turbo,FMIC, and various other things. My radiator is upright now so my feeling was that it wasn't of much use anymore. I think something would have happened in 9.5 years if it was going to happen. I will probably have to AST's for sale really soon. Thankyou again.
