Thats normal. Most every '93 was built in 92(only exception being a VERY small percentage with 12/91 build dates)

Never noticed that car dealers have been selling 2002 car models for several months now and its still 2001?

Yes it is normal - Mazda started selling "93" model RX-7's at the 92 Los Angeles auto show (Jan 1992) Production started in late 91. Second gen 91's continued to be available at some US dealers untill mid/late 92 though there was NO offical 92 model RX-7 from Mazda and in spite of the fact that some US Dealers sold leftover 95's as 96's North Amercian models ended w/ model year 95.

That's a manufactured date, not a model year.

It's the same on just about all physical goods. When you buy a TV, it's probably made a few months ago if not longer.

actually mazda made all of the 93's between 12-91 and 10-92
the 94's were built in 93 and the 95's were built near the end of 95

Since Mazda obviously mislead us all into thinking we have a car that is newer than it actually is, we should all demand brand new ones as compensation! The nerve of them to try to fool us - HAH!
