I think Dave should have a coupon booklet - kinda like the local entertainment book with 50% of meals. He's done alot of work for me already for basically free because he knows my wife will shoot me. You should have seen her face when I told her about this
- well, I can still sell it as a project. It does have everything new in it and 300 rwhp - could have 400 if someone wants to figure it out. I'm not sure if Dave drove on the street yet. It had to be something just stupid - what else could it be. KDR said they think it's the rear thrust washers are worn from a previous owner drag racing - just a possibility. The turbos have nothing to do with it - he said they boost awesome. I still think I could get around $18-19K the way it sits.

Not exactly pile of crap but it seems to be a weekend or race car only.
And it's not that amazing looking to be a weekend car and it's not that fast to be a race car so people then try again to use it as a daily driver and the rotary motor hasn't been developed enough to be reliable at this point at least with a turbo application where it makes a preformance type of output.
If the overheating and running lean problems are taken care of along with a normal usage of gas and reasonable power output the rotary can then be considered a smooth reving performance engine.

I don't get it. I mean..everyday I read you guys with all these problems with your car. I have 154K on my chasis and 40K on my engine. I have put 25K miles on my car since I bought it in March. Its my only car. I drive it every day. I have had NO problems that would not be expected with a car of 154K miles. My turbos are OEM, btw. All my problems were coolant hose related. My upper rad hose, the hose behind the manifold (was a bitch to fix), turbo coolant hose all cracked and some point and leaked. My coolant overflow container cracked. My AST cracked and my radiator fan stopped working 2 times (both the AST and radiator fan were MY fault due to modifications I made to the car).
I'm not going to say that I have not put alot of money into my car, I have replaced bushings, hoses, fan motors, etc....But everything that went bad was to be expected with its age. I have never had any door handles break...Nor have I had any peeling paint, My seats were in great condition before I recovered them with leatherseats.com seats.
Ok...My outside drivers handle did break and i bought a new one and installed it.
I dont know what to say but my car has been and is reliable. Maybe I got a lemon?

My radiator fans were my fault. I had a KOYO Installed and it pressed the fan motor against the intercooler causing the fan to go bad. cant blame that on the car. The AST was my fault, I removed the airbox and the "mystery hose" grabbled the hose that was attached to the nipple of the AST and cracked it.
The door handle? well it seized and I pulled hard and it broke. I found out later that I could have open from the inside, and losen the nut to fix it.
I don't see anything I pointed out to anything other than normal wear and tear. I know the engine doesnt last long, my original engine lasted to 110. My turbos have 154K and no problems.

...but this is my thread, and I'm here saying that FDs overall suck. My car ran properly for about 1 year out of the 5 years I've had it. I did ALL of the reliability mods to ensure reliability to the car - to make it bulletproof...if that's possible. I have done all the mods in correct order to avoid detonation and running lean. Yet, something else comes up that doesn't relate to anything. I've seen so many FD with the weirdest problems (even stock) that I've come to the conclusion that this car is a total piece of ****. I've got 40K in my car (including price) and STILL have weird probems. I'll admit, when they are running right - they're a dream - not much can perform with them - but that's 10 days out of a year though..so it seems.

Me and a local fellow FD owner had this talk about a year ago. 29 days out of the month the car has PMS, and one day it runs like a dream.
I guess 300 rwhp isn't too bad for 10 psi but I'm just cornfused. I can live with that until I get this figured out. I hope I don't come across any Z06s though because that won't cut it

Don't take this the wrong way, but you guys all sound like a bunch of whining ******* bitches

My FD will be running by sunday. By the end of the month it will dyno over 400 to the ground. I will destroy anything I come across on the road. I will be as happy as a pig in ****

I think they all need a drop kick in the huevos. Boo hoo.
This is really wierd, that your car is running great and makes great power at a certain boost level then all the sudden it wont make any more power? This isnt making any sence.....did Dave actually say he got 300 at 10psi then turned it up as high as 16psi and is was still making 300???
Something isnt right about that....maybe you have a boost leak. You can still make high boost #'s with a leak but since its less cfm its less power.
I still feel like its could be a dyno problem....or maybe you werent getting much traction on the dyno. Did they take it out and compare 10psi and 16psi on the street to see what the butt dyno said in 3rd or 4th gear

Ok, I'll take a look at mustangs. Any suggestion as to what size screws to use on the hood?
And yes I knew it wasn't a GEO.. I'm very aware of the differences between the two.On a real note. I think some people just have worse luck with their cars and some people have better luck. Don't know if this is related to where you buy your car(from a dealer or rx7 enthusiast), if it's related to mileage, or if it's just luck of the draw. I gotta agree FD's kick ***, I'm not saying that they don't but some of them seem to consume more money than others on an annual basis. I'm all about FD's but I can joke about their shortcomings, and the usual pain-in-the-*** things that go with them too.
Goodfella, good luck with the car and I expect to see some great dyno numbers.
Barry, I feel for about sinking all the money into the car and having something else go bad, good luck to you too and again I hope maybe it's something little, not something expensive.
SPOautos is right. Something is definitely not being accounted for. If the boost gauge is reading 16psi and you're only getting 300RWHP, something is definitely off. There is a simple explanation for the lack of power. If your engine is sound, there is a HUGE loss somewhere in the driveline. Where there any weird noises during any of these pulls? Any clicking/clacking noises from the rear end? Whether it's the clutch, the transmission, or the differential ... who knows. But, it has to be there.
And if it's not the driveline, then there's a simple explanation in the engine. I highly doubt a boost leak that large ... especially if the UIM is definitely seeing 16psi (you did verify this, I assume). Personally speaking, I'd focus a lot of attention on those turbos. Granted, someone says they are flowing fine. But, you've had two problems already with those turbos ... what makes you think you don't still have a problem with them? Are you seeing any symptomatic problems ... smoke on startup, oil burning smell, oil drips/residue underneath the car? Just trying to throw some ideas out there.
And hey, sometimes people have an off day. Maybe Dave at KDR forgot to check one thing or overlooked something else. **** happens.

I wasn't there when Dave was dynoing it. He had on there for 3 hours checking everything - then put another FD on the dyno and the dyno was fine - it wasn't dyno related. It's definitely something in the drivetrain - like I said, Dave hasn't seen anything like it and he's wroked with 1000s of FDs - I always get a weird one. I told him to start looking at all things - he's wroked with many different kinds of upgraded turbos and he said they are boosting great. The datalogit and guage showed it ran up to 16 psi flawlessly. It's just not showing up on the dyno. It could be anything in drivetrain. Clutch, differential, don't know. The clutch is new and has worked great - it is not slipping at all. We'll find out sooner or later.
And to you that say I'm a whining bitch - eat my shorts
- I have a right to bitch - half of you guys have been running around with 350+rwhp for a while with no problems - I have more mods than most people on the forum (besides single turbo FDs) and something always goes wrong.

people "bitching" on the forum
whoa whoa whoa........
call me stupid, but isn't that what this forum is for? if I **** up my car and come on here for help I would like to think that someone would give me the time of day to help me try to fix it. Or if something goes wrong on my car, I would like to think that I have a huge group of folks willing to help me out. That's what this website is for, to let people gain knowledge about the rx-7 or rotary engines in general. And if you didn't make any mistakes then you wouldn't learn anything, I'll use the example of my dad. He's reading all these books on how to race cars, i.e...turning apex's, accelerating, braking and so on. That doesn't mean that he can do it, sure I agree with some of the things Ron states but I believe that most of it is false!!!! Read all the how to books and websites that you want but I guarantee you, you will "FUKK" up somewhere. Oh ya and god forbid you ask a question on something you don't quiet understand. I think the only people bitching here (including myself) are the ones on this thread!!! Oh I've got an idea why don't you start a forum about your *** because something is up there.
Regards, Matt
Sorry if I sound stupid, it must just be me.
