I get so much attention cause of my wheels...

I painted my wheels gunmetal last fall, and damn I cant even go to the damn grocery store without some comment. Without a doubt my wheels get the most attention of any part of my car. Thought I show what the wheel looks like after 8 months of daily driving. Everyone tells me it makes the car look "mean". Anyway, they get alot of attention. Here is a pic I took today of one of the wheels.

If anyone is considering this here is my original thread.

Those look pretty sweet! I have considered doing that with my 17" JDM wheels or even my old stockers just to see how it looks first. . .
Thats kinda crazy that your wheels get the most attention though, around here there are only a couple of FD's so just seeing one is pretty rare.

Personal opinion but those would look even better with the mazda symbol on the caliper rubbed off with a 3M abrasive rotary pad like the spirit R calipers

everyone thinks these are professionaly done. I mean, why pay 60 per wheel to powdercoat? This is just as good.

Really $60

I got a quote from a local guy that people from my area say is real good , and he said he could do them for $100 all around .
All I had to do is bring them in oil and grease free.

Anyway I agree they do look professional from the pic, if the paint holds up those are probably just fine

still think they would look badass with the natural aluminum showing through on the mazda logo though.

Those look awesome. I've spent a couple hours now trying to clean my stockers, because I don't think they were ever cleaned in the 10 years the car lived before I got it .

Do you think I could paint over the years of caked on brake dust? Or would I need to clean them first?

you need to spray wheel cleaner on your car, soak it for about 5 mintues, then use a 3m pad to clean it. Get some really fine steel whool to make the wheels really clean. Then you are ready to paint. If you paint over the brake dust you will see different tones in the paint.

it would definately look good on MB, I think this color looks good on any color car. They come in various colors I dont recall off hand though what others.

Eh, I dunno. There's a guy locally who Auto-x's his MB and he has his stock wheels painted gunmetal. I personally think it looks alright, but others aren't too fond of it. Something about the contrast in the colors just doesn't mesh as nice as it would on another color.

However, it's your car and you should ALWAYS do what you like. I personally think it looks fine, but some don't care for it. It boils down to personal tastes.

Nah, I got a black interior, haha...

For real, I have no hangups about anyone painting the wheels like mine. Several other members have painted the wheels like mine (I'm sure I was the first). Thats why I posted this. Check out the colors if you dont want to look like mine, they have quite a few. It does make the wheels look new again.

Now I just need to get a paint job....

I painted mine black with a clear coat, $25 worth of paint. I'll post a pic when I can. I could not afford aftermarket rims or powder coating, yet I wanted to separate my car from the other 3 VR FDs in my town. I just used about a pad and a half of scotch-brites...one can of black classic laquer...and quater can of classic laquer clear coat on each wheel.

I also painted my calipers to look just like the ones posted above. Used 40 grit...80 grit...120grit on the Mazda emblem. Made it shiny then taped over it before painting.
