Well, it's leaking from this bolt (there was a wire that hung on to it, but it fell out, so Ill solder it later). What is this? It wont screw out. When I try to tighten it in, it just keeps spinning, but when I loosen it out, it wont come out, all I see is a shaft.

That is your coolant level sensor. It should have a dual-lead wire attached to it.

last i checked this POS sensor is plastic thread.

i had that happen and took a torch and it melted the plastic and it dropped out.

i had that unti off while i was doing it.......... not in the car.

Don't use JB weld. For a temp fix, use a bolt with the correct thread pattern, and some teflon tape.

I got it out.. it looks like the threads took a crap. Does anyone have the part number for this bolt? BTW, TY BATMAN for all your help.

I would not recommend driving your car very far with a temporary repair. I believe that sensor tells the fans when to come on. Without the sensor, the fans may not work, which may cause your car to overheat.

No, you're thinking of the thermoswitch, which is on the back side of the water pump body. The coolant level sensor only activates the warning buzzer and light, it has no effect on the fan operation.

Can anyone back this up? I also thought the same thing, but some people are saying that it does operate the fan.

The part number for the water level sensor is N3A1-15-610A.

You should also replace the gasket for the sensor. The part number for the gasket is 8553-15-611.

Oh ye of little faith...

Take a look at page F-144 of the FSM. The electric cooling fan system schematic diagram shows which switches and sensors have influence over fan operation. The coolant level sensor is not listed (although the thermosensor, thermoswitch, and the electrical load unit are...).

I wasn't doubting you Kento, I was just wondering if both of us might have been wrong. I read the same diagram, and I didn't think that it had anything to do with the fans, either.

Hehe, I wouldn't get this part used either. Well, my attempt at sealing it back up as a temp. fix were unsuccesful. Too bad the local Mazda Dealership doesn't carry this part -- should I order it from my local dealership or should I get it shipped from Malloy Mazda?

If your dealership has the part, the price delta probably isn't much and you'd have the part that day.

Nah, my dealership doesn't carry very many RX-7 parts -- they didn't even have upper/lower coolant hoses in stock. Also, they charge about twice as much for parts as compared to online shops. I suppose Malloy is the way to go -- do they charge for shipping?

Can you not just re-solder the wire back to where it broke off on the housing?

not a good idea......... this is one part of the car that i have lost an engine in the FC years ago and almost lost one in the FD by trying to shortcut.

Treat this device as a heart monitor for the FD.........

On my -92 e-spec FD, there's only a plastic threaded plug in that hole, no sensor. I guess it's not exactly vital for operation. Maybe mazda thought europeans could keep track of coolant levels themselves
