Alright, so my 19th birthday just rolled around and my girlfriend bought me some stuff for my car, its a 93 touring, completely stock. She bought me a new dual tip RB exhaust as well as the new greddy 2 row front mount intercooler kit (the $500 one) as well as a greddy elbow with BOV flange and a greddy type rs BOV. The question i have is with these parts installed am i going to have any problems with anything, especially overheating due to the front mount with a stock radiator? I know that the front mount is not needed, but, she bought it for me and i really dont want to give it back, so is my best bet going to be to go ahead and upgrade the radiator, or will it be alright untill the summer comes?

My suggestion is that if you are going to have to move the radiator around to install the FMIC anyways, just replace it while you're in there so you only have to do the work once change it anyways for safety sake. but really, get those reliability mods done! click here toread the FAQ section amd read the second post, under the R heading for reliability mods. this should be what you worry about first, before you get into the go fast goodies.

to answer your question though, odds are (check this for yourself though), by installing the FMIC and standing the radiator up, you'll have to replace your intake too. You've just made three major changes to your intake/exhaust path meaning, you might as well get a PFC, or something of the sort, and put a proper dp (its a reliability mod anyways) on and getting the thing tuned.

Sorry guys, i forgot to mention that i have already done the reliability mods, minus the dp. I am looking at getting a Fluidyne radiator and the pettit intake setiup, Christmas is coming up you know . I am not as well off as my girlfriend is (i mean damn, i bought my car off my aunt for 5 grand) so im not sure if i can afford a PFC right yet, and is the dp an essential at this moment, i mean i will def be getting one when it begins to warm up more outside, but im alittle short on cash at the moment.

 

my honest opinion is that you should get the PFC and DP at the same time if you're doing all these changes. you'll ended paying double in labor if you don't, or spending god aweful amounts of time doing it yourself. check in the For Sale section of the forum, yuo can pick up a dp for around $100 and a used PFC for well below retail. i understand that it might be a stretch, but if it is, maybe you should consider holding off on the rest of the changes until you can swing it. do it once and you'll save alot of time/effort/$$$

 

oh yea, and i need some suggestions on which downpipe is best to use with the RB exhaust, also what type of PFC would you guys recommend? Because if it is necessary i will find the money i need to get these things, im not going to run my car with an unnecessary risk of breaking it.

 

here is my greddy 2 row with stock rad. at a semi angle. i still have the a/c hooked up too. my intake is the apexi hard pipes and filters. everything fits in there snug. i used all the factory radiator brackets to mount the rad.... just have to get creative. my water temps are between 180-210 depending on how i'm driving.

 

so, you havent had any problems with overheating or anything? My setup is going to be very similar to that ..... for now atleast

 

nope no overheating probelms... very rarely does it see anything over than 215 in temps....thats when i 'm driving hard in the summer. i believe that the fans don't come on till 221...as soon as my thermostat opens the temps drop nicely. .... just make sure you bleed the air really well. my rad. was still in very good shape but the end tanks do have a tendancy to crack. inspect yours before you decided to reuse it.

You don't need a PFC, what is this, the year 2000? Just put a manual boost controller (or better, an electronic one) in to keep boost at 10 psi. You'll be fine on the stock ecu.

Get a downpipe. It's more important than any other mod. Replace the radiator if the end tanks look worn at all.

i'm just suggesting it since he's obviously interested in modding the car, that he gets everything done at once. you obviously know more than i do though, so... i withdraw that suggestion. hadn't crossed my mind to just use a boost controller.

I don't know why, it is mild steel and has a crimp in it to clear the steering column on RHD cars.

I have a SS Bonez on my car, very nice quality.

 

Yea..I have sum unknown 1 on mine. Deff. isn't SS or shiney at all.
