i bet none of yall can answer all this stuff acurately!
hello all, well i just bought a 93 touring auto FD, and i have read all the post concerning autos, and i hear that if u power brake these cars that they will take off good. well when i power brake, i can only reach 1500 rpms, i heard you are suppose to reach about 3000 rpms.
whats wrong here?
do these things come with stall converters?
what does a conversion consist of?
what would be a good way to sell my auto tranny, its new?
how much could i sell this car for?
turbotimer
downpipe
apex BOV
new 16 enkei wheels
silver touring edition
inside is mint
outside is good
auto of course
cars has 59000
new motor 2500 miles ago
new trans 5000 miles ago
new vacuum hoses
turbo inspection papers
all papers and records for new parts and motor
thanks for everything, i want a five speed, i rode in one the other day, and i did not want to get back in mine,
have a good day!

Ask Jonski..... he's got an auto and knows those things pretty well. It's a shame that you want to sell your car so soon after buying it.
btw.... most of the old-timers on this forum (i'm a noob)hate it when people try to trick them into reading a thread w/o the main point in the subject line.... they feel misled and then boycott the thread

First of all......are you using the 'hold' button? Something isn't right if you are actually in 1st gear ('L' on the lever with the 'hold' on) and you powerbrake it and only pull 1500 rpm.....
You should easily pull 2500 to 3000 at which point you will (or should) be having to really hold hard on the brakes, and even then you ought to be getting a little rear wheel creep.....
I hope you have searched adequately, 'cuz this only comes up about every week or so.....

i have searched, not much on this 1500 rpm issue, and yes i do have it in L and the hold button is in, i learned how to launch it, from searhing,
i just sits at 1500 rpm, likes its lidling there,
does it hurt the tranny when u power brake the car?
thanks man

well to begin with, i feel your pain. i regretfully own an auto rx7. be sure you have the shifter in the L position and the hold button on, when launching. i have never got my rpms higher than 1800-2000 when power braking it. except for the very few times the tired started turning over. it doesnt matter what you do, the slowest car in the parking lot will beat you off the line.
the stock stall point is suppose to be around 3000 rpms. but as i said ive never been close to it. i really cant tell if/what is wrong. maybe low compression, maybe bad tranny, maybe bad torque converter, maybe thats just the way its suppose to be.
as for the conversion, any question about it can be answered by searching for " auto to 5 speed conversion". there is plenty of info and related links on this forum about. sorry i dont have the time to look it up for you.
how much can you sell your car for? i dont know. but i can tell you that ive been trying to sell mine for about 6 months. from posting on the forum, ebay, to trying locally. and i have had minimal interest. bottom line is very few people want an auto. and recent sells show that they sale for alot cheaper than the 5 speed.
my mods are intake, mp, dp, catback, smic, efi pmc. and even with my wastegate ported and a restrictor plate in the exhaust, i was getting a spike to 14-15psi in between gear shifts. which caused the death of my engine a few weeks ago, while making a 9.1 pass in the 1/8th mi with a 2.66 60ft time. so be carefull if you add a midpipe.
needless to say i want be driving my car till i get finish rebuilding my motor and converting it to a 5 SPEED!
hope this was helpfull. all the above is form my own experience and opion. BTW i think i answered everything accurately.

I could answer those questions (well the ones that aren't arbitrary) but not until you accurately spell "accurately." Selling that tranny is going to be a bitch -- my roommate couldn't even give one away from his friend's conversion. People wanted him to pay to ship it! I could actually use it for something but I'm not going to pay much for it because no one else would. I could pick it up, too.

There is definitely something wrong with your car!
The stall speed is 3000 - 3300 rpm. This is outlined in the Service Manual and is borne out by my practical experience. There two listed causes for lower than normal rpm at stall speed, one is "engine out of tune" and the other is "one way clutch slipping within torque converter".
Seriously, those of us with decent running automatics know that there is not THAT much difference between them and the manuals. A lot is in perceived not real difference, there is definitely a more visceral feel to revving up and dumping the clutch.....
And of course the numerically lower final drive helps the manuals.
Done correctly, an auto CAN launch hard...it just takes practice and is not the best thing to do for the tranny.
Much more effective is to get a slight roll and punch it; the turbos will have spooled up about the time the transmission figures out you REALLY want to go, and you can be treated to nice smokey wheelspin if that is what floats your boat.
What could you sell your car for? Depends on a lot of things, but overall I would say between $12,500 and $15,000.
In all honesty, it is probably better to sell the car and buy one with a manual rather than do the conversion.
Several Forum members have done or are in the process of converting, but it is not the easiest nor cheapest thing to do.
As for selling the auto tranny stand alone....call around to salvage yards. Some will buy them. You won't get much, and the pisser is that you would pay 10 times what you will get for it, if you had to purchase one from the same salvagers!
How 'bout you just get used to your car, learn its GOOD points. A well tuned, well running auto FD is a very fun car indeed. No, I would not want to auto-X one, but for 90% of all your other driving "needs", they fill the bill quite well.
