How to test solenoids?

I took out my charge control solenoid and some solenoids I believe are having problems on the solenoid rack, but I was wondering how I can tell or test it to see if it is bad, I know one aspect to test it with the voltmeter, but I was wondering what are the specs, etc!

Thanks,

Ravi

Well, for the switching solenoids like the charge control and double throttle you can simply use 12volts to tell if the are working.

This is a crude version of the switches.

___|B|
A----|---------[C]

When you applie vacuum to (A) there should be no flow between (A) and (B0 or (A) and (C)

Applie 12 volts and ground to the terminals and you should have air flow between (A) and (B).

Without voltage there should be flow between (B) and (C)
