Just look at how much the cost of a rebuild is. Heres another thing to think about, that money that you could be spending on modding another car you will want to keep at least $3000 of it on hand at all times for a rebuild. That would buy you a nice turbo upgrade for a DSM or something along those lines and yes you should expect to spend that money on an engine rebuild and have to get another $3000 on hand within a few years.
Dont even try to kid yourself about driving like grandma. My dad has driven several supercars and other sports/exotics not one did he really drive hard. He drives like a grandma all day every day no matter what car he is driving. But when i let him drive my FD (yes he paid for it so i could hardly not let him) he got on it a little and felt the boost start to build and got on it a little more, and a little more. By the time he got half way down the street he was doing 80 in a suburban estate that he normally rolls through at 15.
Personally i think that anyone that is younger than 18 and owns an FD is plain stupid (and yes i know i just called myself stupid.) Right now my rx7 is in the garage getting an (puts on flame suit) ls1 swap during my spare time. I have a Titan to DD in and if i didnt have the titan i wouldnt own the fd. The risks are high enough only driving it for fun and not as a dd.
Anyway im going to go put on my flame suit now as i just admitted to being under 18 and not paying for my fd.
If you do get it enjoy it but dont expect any sympathy when/if you wreck it. I know i dont.

hes 17. do any of you even think he gives a **** about what a couple of guys on the internet tell him? haha hes gonna get the FD regardless, kids dont listen to REASON. i dont care how mature they think they are, they will still buy it and its still a bad decision. when him and/or his parents get tired of buying rebuilds and every other part thats about to break on a 10+ year old car, there will be another FD on the market. if he doesnt crash it first.
and hey agustin lopez, when you do get your FD, your not gonna learn the charactoristics of the car by driving like a grandma. drive normal, when you feel like doing something spirited, do it somewhere you cant hurt other cars and people. you dont have to be mario andretti to drive a FD (contrary to popular belief i guess) however experience in a FR car is mandatory. good luck

If that were the case Ford Pintos would be worth big bucks. When is the last time you saw one of those???
I see dip **** statements like this all the time. No proof, no fact, it's only in your mind.
Check out the classifies. The price is going DOWN every year.
That's why all these 16 year olds can afford them now.

well remember this people always want what they can't have, so i'm thinking the "give it to him for a few days thing" just might work, cause then he "had it", but if yoou just talk crap bout it he will be able to tell, truth be known you want the best impact on his buying intentions, (if he is a godo friend i would try this) talk to his dad explain your situation and maybee the dad that wants to pamper his son will reilize it is too much for him and tell his son he has to get something else a little less "powered" maybee a RX8 which i've heard is a more morgiving car to drive then the 7, tell him it's not about what car he wants but what he would not total and then heart break over. thats my opinion and it's crazy enough it just could work

tell him you'll bang his sister and his mom if he buys an FD, then if he buys it, keep your word, and beat him up ><.
I've had my FD for 2 years now, not a single accident, I'm only 20. I drive it like its a godsend, I dont take it out in rain/snow, I refuse to drive it during rush hour(traffic time!) I also have a daily driver. Btw I paid for my FD in cash(15k) that I earned working 70 hours a week, I've also been paying 500$ for rent since I was 16. Dont give your kids crazy fast cars, make those ****'s work in a sweat shop!
Usually when you earn things yourself, you tend to appreciate things more, thats why I dont agree w/ parents buying 16 year olds M3's and M5's or an FD. Make them earn it with their own hard earned cash, they will appreciate it alot more I guarantee it.

I skimmed through this thread a bit and alot were good posts.
Def do the map hose disconnect on him. Also have a bunch of your friends pretend that the car looks like a girls car or something like that, like a miata. I know i get **** when someone says my FD looks like a girls car. Im sure he'd get mad too.
Or make some stories saying like damn, i cant get my car to run right and i spent all week trying to make it run.

OK THERES two big difference between them and me...1 my mom is not paying for the car we worked our asses off going from layer to lawyer... to finally win our law suit. and it wasnt a stupid lawsuit like many americans do. my bro was run over be a car going very slow. and all because some idiot lady had a wood fence without permission that blocked the view of the alley.2nd is that my mom is not going to pay for any repairs not because she doesnt want to but because she cant. now please guys stop being little **** because u would do the same thing if u were in my spot. or am i wrong?...honestly?

the dude's already reading the suggestion, so the map sensor thing won't work. And if he's going to be paying for everything else after his parents shell out the cash for the car. i.e insurance gas and unholy parts prices, and probably labor since he won't be stationed at home let him. on an e-1's measley salary he'll either have just enough to drive the car around and decently maintain it; while not being able to do absolutely anything else or it'll sit cause he'd rather go out than spend his own money on parts. assuming of course he gets full coverage which for a 17 year old has to make you want to cry. let him have the inconvenience of not having a dd and having his car down for week + for God knows what.

Well, it was a joke. I don't think anyone has the right to tell anyone else what car to buy/not to buy if he/she is not the guardian of that individual (assuming under 18), if you wanted an honest opinion.
However, if you want to make a case out of this, supply and demand would dictate that less of one thing makes it more valuable. If you had the last FD on the planet, I bet its value would increase substantially. FDs are still quite common, so the loss of 1 will not really do much to the value of the others. ...And I hope my FD is of a slightly higher quality and timelessness than a Ford Pinto. However, I'd have been a fool to buy this car as a financial investment.
Good day
