How is the stock tachometer hooked up???

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the stock tach hooked up.

Is it a coil type?

If it is what coil leading/trailing is it hooked on too? even if i have an aftermarket ignition system if its hooked up to one of my new MSD trailing side ignition coil it should still send out the pulse signals at the right time?

Is the stock Tach hooked up to the ecu and reads off the E-shaft reading the computer gets???

I tried looking in the wiring diagrams on 93,94 but i wasnt very sucessful in finding my answers.

Any and all help is apreciated!

Bump, Help please! Tach still dead!

I found a wiring diagram but it lacked wire color, pin outs. It looks like all the gauges share a common power and it grounds through the ECU for pulses. Any help would be great thanx!

The tach gets it;s power from the speedo. Does your speedo work? My speedo & tach died a while back. When I bought a new speedo ($400) everything workd again. If there's a problem with something on the speedo board, it could effect the tach

^ My speedo and tach once died because a wire was clipped in the trunk of my car =/ dont ask me why the wires were going back there but until i went into the trunk and found the break in the wire loom they just died out on me.

The speedo works great, I have all sensors working (minus oil pressure sending unit is broke) exept for my tach. My tunner took a wire off the harness and hooked it into my ignition moduel output for a tach but he might have taken the wrong wire. If you can tell me more about how its hooked up or were to find out more about it let me know!

PS. I know that they all share power, i think i miss read what you said. Yeah the speedo works so I dont think its the power lead. Does anyone know what wires go into the factory ECU to control the tach, thats what the wiring schematic looks like it does...
