How should i break in my motor and tune it?

This is gonna be my first single turbo setup. I'm gonna be finishing up my rebuild here soon. Street port with 3mm seals. The motor has previously had 4K mile on it, but i had to tear it apart due to oil being caked in it, not knowing if it was an oil seal on the rotor. So I'm using the used apex seal, which had hardly any wear and the housing looked like low milage. I installed all new rubber seals. I'm also installing my R85 single turbo also, with apexi power FC/Commander/datlogic. I also have a Innovate wideband. I have to tune it for my 850 primaries and 1600 sec. My mechanic that is helping can help me get it tuned well enough to take it to mazdsport to put on a dyno. Do i need to take it to the dyno to tune it for the break in, then take it back when i can run boost?

If that's the case how do i run no boost on my setup? I have tial 44mm wastegate, and i'm gonna hook up my greddy profec S.

I can only tell you what my rebuilder told me. Do not boost for first thousand miles, and vary the RPM's. My rebuild was several years ago and have had no issues following his instructions.

Good luck with it.

stay off boost for the first 1k-1.5k miles and change the oil and filter at 250, 500 and 1000k miles....

a great way to make sure the rebuild is good is to open up the oil filter and make sure there isnt any debris or "sparklies" in the filter element. if there is, immediately stop use and take it to the builder

How do you tune for the upper rpms without the boost coming on? Should i npt even put on my turbo until then, just leave off the turbo manifold.

I did no more than 3k rpms for the first 500 miles. No boost till 1000. Though for you when you hit the 1000 mile marker you need to get tuned.

on your PFC set your RPM at 3000 to 3500. Dont go over 4k till you hit 1000 miles on your engine. Once you have set your rev limit on your PFC, take it easy..

you dont tune for boost during break in. you absolutely dont tune in the upper rpms (past 4500rpm) because you are breaking in the motor.

once you complete at least 1000miles on the motor without boost then you can do a light tune which will be able to boost. most ppl would tell you to lean into the upper rpms after tuning once the 1k mark is reached and not to go all the way to redline.
easily lean into it then shift at 6500 or so and whatnot, then if at a cruising speed take it up high then let off the gas(not putting your foot on the clutch) and let the engine come down on its own. varying the RPM and leaning into boost will be better for the motor in the long run.

after 2k miles, get a full tune and do whatever you want
