Exclamation How to replace the Throttle Body Coolant Hose where meets to block??!!

I'm usually **** about maintenance but neglected to replace that hose b/c its such a pita to get to. Sure enough it split open and dumped my coolant all over the ground.

Now I have the UIM off but I can't see how I can get to the hose clamp where it connects to the block! Looks like I need 12" long fingers with 4 joints or something.

I found plenty of threads related to that hose when the motor is out but nothing about when the motor is in.

What is the secret to getting to it while the motor is still in the car?

Your help is much appreciated!

Thanks.

you need a special pair of pliers that are needlenosed with a bend for hoses or you have to take the rats nest off witch can be very ugly.

while your at it you can run the hose that goes to the throttle body to the directing line that goes to the coolant filler neck and wire the thermowax on the throttle body half open elminating the hose to the TB

Thanks. Goodfella suggested something similar to you. Heading out to Sears now to see what I can find.

I thought about eliminating the routing to the TB but am concerned about a rough cold start. I'm satisfied with cold start characteristics currently and the hose under the TB is new also. Doesn't seem to be much of a point really unless I missed something.

Yeah, use some long needle nose pliers to pull the hose clamp up, then some hose pliers to break it loose from the fitting and remove. Might have to push some vacuum/fuel lines around a bit in the process.

Thanks. I went to Sears and bought some 12" pliers. Never knew them made them that long... Hopefully they aren't too large to fit.

Lots of stuff to push around down there.

I replaced my hose with the UIM still on.

First, I removed the throttle body and that gave me enough room to do everything I needed to do.

I cut the hose off near the block and bought 12" long straight needle nose pliers from Harbor Freight.

Then I went from the top and removed the Clip.

Then I took a flat head screw driver and pried it off using access from the driver's side where the throttlebody was.

Talking Victory!

Another instance that proves that having the right tool for job makes all the difference.

With the 12" pliers, I was able to remove the old hose and get the new one on in 15 minutes.

Lots of stuff in the way.
