Just intalled my reman. My mechanic tore it down to port it... engine looked great inside. New housings & rotors. Running great so far.

Generally you can't swap a rebuilt like you can a reman.

Many, if not most rebuilders will require a core before they can rebuild your motor. Mazda will charge a core but give you a motor before you pull yours out.

One thing people don't count in the cost of other rebuilds compared to a reman is the new water pump, thermostat, water level sender and new or resurfaced flywheel. If you get new housings then you also get the oil injectors included with the reman, IIRC the primary fuel diffusers are in remans also, that is probably worth ~$200.

Another cost not to ignore is shipping. You can pick up a reman at the local dealer potentially saving shipping two ways.

IMHO the MAIN reason you hear more about reman failures than other rebuilders is simply due to volume. For example: You rebuild 100 engines/yr and Mazda rebuilds 1000/yr. Assume a 5% failure rate, 5 failures for you, 50 failures for Mazda.
