Hi all,

I have always wanted to ask this question for a long time: on the rear coilover for my FD, it has a helper spring below the main spring. Now, with my car jacked up and the rear shock goes to full droop, what is the helper spring supposed to look like for final installation. Is it supposed to be fully compressed or fully extended?

Hey man,

All the job of the helper spring is supposed to do is maintain tension between the main spring and the bottom nut, so that the main spring doesn't pop out on some settings and sit funny. Whether its already fully compressed or partly compressed or hanging is dependent upon what ride height you are looking for. wazway, thanks for your reply! It does seem like affecting the ride height: if I lengthen it, the ride height drops; if I compress it, the ride height rises.

I think what wazway means is that the helper spring will always be fully compressed during normal operation so just adjust your ride height to wherever you want it. In the event you drive over a pothole or something the helper spring will extend to ensure the main spring does not shift out of place.
