how old is this, and should it be replaced

i know it's an ignition amplifier, but is it out of date? is there some new fancy one that should be in there...actually is this so old it might be bad to use it?

You might try asking your question on one of the early series forums. Units such as yours were used on the cars with distributors, and from what I understand, have a pretty good reputation.

It is probably no more than ten years old, and would likely make a good amp for a FC or FD leading coil.
