How often should inspect my aftermarket filter in the air box??
I just changed my air filter and put in an aftermarket KNN drop in air filter in my rx. I had done this 2 months ago. I was wondering how often i should inspect it i had it changed at 138000 clicks, now i have 141000 clicks. By the way i only have 40k on this new motor.

Are you running a stock air box or aftermarket? I am running a M2 Cold Air Box with two K&N's which I don't believe need replacing, just cleaning and re-oiling. Cloverdale huh? I am just south of you, about an hour. Go to the West Forum because I am curious about your car and would like to ask you some questions: year purchased, how many miles on the original motor when you replaced it, and for what reason. The reason I am so curious is that I have a 93 FD purchased in June of 92 and have since done some mods and have about 72000 on the original motor. Thanks.:1party:

I just cleaned and reinstalled my K&N airfilter. It had 10,000 miles on it, and I thought it needed a recleaning.
K&N says you can go up to 50k miles between cleanings, but I don't believe that. Besides dirt and grit, the filter also gets a lot of bugs and bits of leaves in it. Some of that larger material sticks in the filter and doesn't come out easily. Sometimes I have to take a toothpick and get some of the dead insects out of the filter because they won't come out with the water flow.
So I don't think every 10,000 miles is too soon to clean or replace your air filter.

10-15k mi is what I would recommend if you want optimal performance. Do clean and reoil every 30k at least (emphasis on at least).
I am not too fond of my K&N drop in. I didn't notice any difference in performance. The filter also does not have a plastic 'frame' like the stock paper does. I think the plastic 'frame' makes it easier to install and ensures a perfect seal in the stock box better.
I guess it's cheaper to keep the K&N bc it's reuseable. I may have to cut a hole in the stock box to get more air I think.
