Exclamation How much white smoke is bad smoke?

I just bought my FD here in the northeast and I drove it to work this am. I warmed it up for 5min before driving, and for at least the next 5 min the car was making a decent little plume of white smoke/steam. The cloud seemed to hang around longer than steam usually would. Smelled a little too much to be just steam, but I honestly don't know for sure. After another 15min (easy highway driving) it made no more white stuff.

Is it just the weather? It was slightly foggy this morning and temps in the 20s. I drove it last night too when it was cold, could that have left condensation in the exhaust line?

Oh, the car has 52k and the engine is a Mazda reman only 7k old. Turbos function perfectly.

Dave

Mine makes a lot of steam when warming up. Especially when it's cold out. It goes after after I drive though.

Rotaries seem to make alot of steam when it is cold out. Dont worry about it unless it steams much after the car fully warms up or does it when it is warm out.

If it's coolant seals, you'll know. The smoke will hang around like a smoke grenade hiding a platoon of soldiers (and it will smell aweful as well).

My 93 fd 51k miles/6k on mazda reman does the same thing when it is cold, i have taken a wiff of the exhaust when it is doing this and it is richer than 3-foot up a bulls butt in unburned gasoline fumes. (no cats) to burn excess fuel. engine goes full rich on cold startup, after engine is up to temp exhaust is clear. just the nature of the beast!
