How much power is the stock clutch good for?

I am doing a rebiuld/porting and going single and all that junk. I remember when my car still ran that stock clutch felt pretty strong through all my abuse. anyone know how much power they can generally take? I did like the feel. btw, I was pleasently suprised today as to how light the stock flywheel flet when compared to my old TII one. FD's are sweet.

I was making a little over 300rwhp when the stock clutch was in the car. Seemed to grab fine but the pilot bearing flew apart later.

If your porting and going single I think you should do it while your tearing everything apart anyways..plus I doubt if a stock clutch can handle that much for too long.

Its the pressure plate that matters.
Gotta make sure the plate can clamp the clutch to the flywheel well.

I'd have to agree with mako, while your busy, I'd fit an upgraded clutch in there, just to be sure. Could save you a lot of work in the very near future... just my two cents

Stock clutch was good for up to 300rwhp, a good single conversion should see you the right side of 400
I fitted an Exedy 1st of all and it was pants, fitted an Extreme before Christmas and cannot fault it not to heavy but good for the 420 I'm running

Just go with the ACT Street/Strip if you're not going for huge 450+ numbers. Many people have it on here, and I've had it on my previous FD and it feels almost the same as stock, very easy to drive with.

thanks guys. Yeah, I'm not shooting for more than 400 hp. I will look into the exedy clutches more as I've had great luck w/ that brand in the past. I also hear of them having misc. manufacturers defects alot less than other brands. if you know of a good place to buy (besides the obvious ebay) please let me know, thanks.

ACT is another brand you can't go wrong with. It's basically the same disc with a heavier pressure plate. You can feel the added pressure through the pedal and it engages much quicker than stock. I use my car for track and street and it's a perfect compromise for my ~350 flywheel hp.
