How Much HP do does a stock FD have?
If you're just referring to US Spec models then they all came rated at 255hp at the flywheel. Japanese spec models came with more hp due to different equipment...they have less stringent emissions laws thus allowing Mazda to put a downpipe and whatnot on their J-spec cars. They had a few different models there with different hp ratings ranging from 261-276hp. I didn't have the A'PEXi GT exhaust, but I had the N1 dual which is almost as open and it added I'd say 5..maybe 10 rear wheel hp at most. The biggest restriction in the exhaust system is the pre-cat and main cat. Removing/replacing them will add the most hp by far.

It's just the law and manufacturers playing loopholes.
You might have seen this on your post about 1/4 mile times, but my stock 95 RX-7 with a straight through catback system put down 238.2 hp and 226 ft lbs of torque to the ground. I believe that equals about a 13-14 hp gain at the wheels and a GAIN OF ABOUT 30 ft lbs of torque at the wheels.
Japan 5-spd cars were rated at 255ps for 92-95, 265ps for 96-98, and 265/280ps for 99+ The 280ps cars were in the higher models or limited edition(RS, RZ, etc.)
All US cars were rated at 255hp for the 93-95 years.

276 is actually 280 ... manufacturers are restricted by Japanese law to limit cars to 276, so cars that are higher are listed as 276. Ever wonder why there are so many Japanese market cars listed at 276? Hehehe ... you really didn't think that the Japanese JZA80 is 276 when the American one is 320, did you?

Welcome to the forum! That is one OLD thread you found!
Stock in the US was 255hp rated from the factory at the crank. A bone stock car will dyne about 220-230 to the ground.
The 99 spec cars bumped to 280hp with the better turbos, slightly more boost, and minor refinements in Japan. The cars of that era without the better turbos were rated at 265hp.

It's October, time to go revive the dead threads! Man to think y'all were talking about FD's when I wasn't even old enough to have a license....
Does make me wonder if anyone ever dyno'd a 280PS spec car.

Yep, I dyno'd my 2002 with just a backbox and it made 289hp on a UK dyno. At the time this car was otherwise stock performance wise, so I'd guess without the backbox it'd be pretty much on the money.
The scaling is a bit out on the graph so you can ignore the RPM's, the car was also heatsoaked from sitting after a long drive. I'd expect it to make a bit more in ideal conditions.
