have u driven one stock? there is a stiky read it. u cant up the boost unless u get a few things done first. www.m2performance.com look at their staged upgrades if u are lookign for power. if u need more go the single turbo route.

100% stock = 10psi
add capable ecu = 12psi
add upgraded intercooler = 14 psi
increse fuel capacity, and high octane gas = 14+psi
assuming ecu and intercooler are sufficient
this is just an estimate, you will obviously want to do other mods in between. do a search for "fuel cut" you'll find more than you ever wanted

I have a HKS F-Con, FCD, Dp, Mp, Cat-back, intake and no boost controller, the car at full boost with boost spikes goes between 14~15lbs. It is on the dangerous level, so I am going to replace the F-Con with a PFC and control the boost level.
If your FD is bone stock you don't even want to install a boost control, when you install the the dp, the cat-back and the intake the boost will automatically increase as the flow or air flows better.

fart on a friends head!!!
rerx7, you dont even need the pfc. . . just get a good boost controller. you still have boost creep with the pfc. it uses the same solenoids as stock. dont get me wrong, i like my pfc and the datalogit that goes with it, but you can control your fuel fine with the f-con. unless you are wanting to do other things (that the fcon definately cant do) i would keep the f-con and use other piggyback options to control your timing and such. youll never sell that f-con. ive had mine for the s5 rx-7 for over a year now. and i havent had my 89 TII for close to that time. nobody seems to want that thing, so youll end up just chunking it.
if youre okay with that then by all means throw it away (or TRY to sell it) and get the pfc and datalogit (and a respectable boost controller). it is a great product. . . but then again so is the new aem i hear. haha.

i am just looking out for your wallet. i among others feel that the first mod should be a standalone ecu. go ahead and get one. if you are getting serious mods done then i would recommend to get it . . . period. i just wanted to bring a different light to your decision. if youre keeping a somewhat stock turbo setup and your mods arent going to be huge, then just keep it and look for something to allow tuning on the timing. if you plan to go mod crazy like many of us then by all means step into the darkside. haha.

this is one of my customers car and we are just trying to help him out.we know about hondas and acuras and did so stuff on mx5s but never on a rotary. its got aftermarket air filters on it that he rigged on with tape and a turbo xs boost controller and a disconected exhaust.he brought in a safc for us to install on his car which was no problem . but when we took it for a test drive it had boost spikes all over the place and i think it is hitting fuel cut.what is the psi for fuel cut. we dont know how much is safe and what mods to do to keep it safe .any info is greatly appreciated thank you matt

Mazda took into account that there may be boost spikes at transition and raised the cut-off pressure. Also, boost has to be sustained above the cut-off pressure for a certain period of time before the fuel cut takes place.

Well if the exhaust is disconnected and is more like a straight pipe controlling boost creep will be very hard. The stock wastegate size is often times too small to vent enough exhaust gasses to prevent the boost from rising even more. An MBC will work fine, just make sure the car has a cat on it to put some restriction in the exhaust.. otherwise you need to remove the turbos and port the wastegate.
