consider an NA FC with really low miles or moderate miles with a good rebuild. have you ever driven an rx-7? even the NA's are exciting cars. i LOVE me 88.

Well I have had 2 cars before my FD and I am 17. I pay for every aftermarket mod and gas and my parents pay insurance. Its not that bad for me cuz im still in high school and have someone i know to take it to if there are any huge problems. I also daily drive my FD. But if you are going to college and have no car experience. I really wouldn't purchase one right now. I would wait until my 2nd year at least

I have no time to drive it so it gives me time to save for it before i bought it i made sure i had 5k for just in case fund, that i now it will need.all paid for by the USMC.

my civic hatch dd is getting 28mpg...good but kinda low for a 95 hatch

first car at age 16 was a 1990 eclipse turbo = many speeding tickets and learned how to drive with many expenses
2nd car was a 88 rx7 gtu = absolutly loved it and learned how to have fun in a rwd
3rd car was a 89 mx6 turbo = DD
4th car was a 98 grand prix gtp = DD, grandma car with power
5th car is my 94 rx7 = now sitting in garage waiting for money for a stage 3 street race port with 3mm apex seals and all the goodies to go with to hopefully get to 550+ rwhp someday = $15K+
6th vehicle is my 98 F150 = DD/ muddin mother f***er!

I'm 22 now and love my rx7s and cars with turbos or superchargers. I have also worked all through high school and now work 50+ hours a week to pay for them.
Take it from me if you have the time and money I'd reluctantly say go for it but if you just want a sweet ass car start with the FC will do as many nuts as you want it to and still look good.

get a FWD vehicle for your first car. Hands down. An experienced driver on the street will still be caught with his pants down taking an FD (or any other purebred sports car for that matter) for granted.

They are fast, unforgiving, and if you go into one without the proper attitude and experience; they bite harder than a pitbull on steroids.

Thats just ridiculous, don't tell him a FWD vehicle is what he needs. THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH RWD. Nothing at all. NOT ONE THING. Theres just stupid drivers, and learning on a FWD isn't going to make them a better RWD driver.

I can see where you say the FD is unforgiving, but if you don't push it when you shouldn't(ie. on the street), you won't have trouble. Stop acting like the car is hard to drive. Its just like any other car as long as you take it easy on the throttle. I've driven my car in pure downpours and it didn't magically end up in a ditch.

Don't be stupid and your car will be fine. You make a stupid decision, and you'll have to pay for it in any car. Atleast in the FD, maybe you'll scare yourself out of doing it. ;)

Just a question...how much is insurance for you teens? I pay £3k for insurance & im 21! Been into FD's for nearly 3 years and iv paid over £12k in the last 3 years!

it was my second car (first was my ford escord=prom date vehicle) but the FD is the first car that ive owned and paid for

for liability i was paing $150 for full coverage i was paying $315

hmmm well maybe i dont count because im married and 20 buuuuut i wouldnt reccomend buying an fd unless you have a daily, me and my wife have good paying jobs enough so i can still go to school. but i know if my car were to go down at a time when i didnt have money to fix it that she might have to sit for a bit because college is going to come first. its not that hard to maintain if you have a good knowledge of cars. ive owned quite a few cars before this so i wasnt really scared to get into an fd lol

so as you can see i played around with cars that were very forgiving, the 1991 was the best car ive ever owned, VERY low maintainence very dependable and quick, basically wait and buy it for yourself it will be so much more meaningful. id even reccomend getting an NA fc and learning everything you can before stepping into a t2 or fd.

I am 18 years old and bought my car when I was 17. It was not my first car but was my first real car in the sense that I have to pay for everything except insurance. Dont listen to people telling you to get a FWD first. That will do nothing but prolong you learning on a RWD which you will need to do later anyway. This is the way I looked at it, my car broke down and I needed a new car I had been looking for months and was going to get a volvo. Then by acccident I came across my current car the rx-7. I bought it the next week. Yes this car does use a lot of money, $70 to fill it up and it only goes 250 miles on a tank. However I pay for everything that has to do with maintenence and that costs alot of money. I not only daily drive my car, but use it for my job which is delivering pizzas. Some may see this as stupid but I bought the car to enjoy and do enjoy it. It has its problems and every once in awhile I catch myself looking back and thinking that I should have gotten the volvo, but then I go look at my car and go for a drive. You only live once, enjoy your life you dont want to regret not getting the car. If its too hard for you to have you can always sell it and get a beater or a different rx-7. Just my thoughts, sorry for the long post.

the key point imo is the FD is NOT a daily driver....most teenagers can't afford two (nice) cars unless mommy and daddy are giving hand-outs

ive seen too many nice cars wrecked because they were the owner's first car.

If you really want an FD for a DD and a first car. Buy a cheap beater civic, and a blown motor FD. Drive the civic while you install an LS1 or a rebuilt 13B-REW in the FD. You will save some money and in the process learn a lot about how to work on these cars. You will also have a lot more appreciation for the car when its done because it will have your own sweat and skin in it.

If you plan on keeping the car through college i would go LS1 but thats a whole other argument.
