PFC Is not a reliability mod, nor would a single turbo be. Also raising the boost is more of an unreliable mod. Especially if the fuel system is stock. If you do purchase a FD, just tune it up like nothing has ever been replaced. It's not just having time to take care of it. It is having money. This car is not cheap. The lil car eats up a lot of my money. It's like having a love/hate relationship. LOL! If you're going to have it in L.A. then you better hope you can afford to drive it, with those gas prices. I think gas is worse in L.A. than San Diego.

Yah, If you have the funds then go for it. I have a full ride to college with everything covered, so my only expense is my car, so I make sure its something I love because I spend time working with it. Have fun man! :)

FD is the first car I bought with all my own money and now it is paid off.... I work at the Casino...... I am 21 years old...... I have 2 other DD's...... I baby the car intensely, will not take it out in the rain, no street racing or other bs..... So I don't get it does that make me a terrible FD owner or a sensible FD owner..... And not to mention I let it warm up everytime before taking it anywhere, I park at the far far ends of parking lots not to have dents, I let the car cool down 5 minutes before shutting it off and the proceed to let it cool with the hood open for 20 and fans on for 5. The first oil change I ever did myself in my life I did on my FD and I personally don't think I am idiotic, you tell me. Alex |
My First and only love
Hey there, got my car when I was 18 and a senior in High School. That was back in 96. I've still got it and it's only got 46K with tons of care and tons of mods. I am thinking of picking up another in fact. True though that the first years of owning the care I did not know much about it and probably abused it more than it should have been but nevertheless I've still got mybaby and it's become a Street Devil and one that is spoiled rotten.......

I'd advise you not to.
My first car was a 92 stealth twin turbo I inherited from my father. I had it in university and just could not maintain it. I could not fix it in the parking lot of my complex, had no money to do body work when I dented it, and could barely afford to get regular service. I turned a beautiful car into a mechanical shitpile. Taking proper car of a car is not cheap. Even with just basic reliability mods, (rad, downpipe, AST, vacuum hose replacement, etc. not even going into performance mods like PFC, boost controllers, single turbos, etc.) an FD will still cost you a lot if you don't have somewhere that will let you do the work (i.e. your own garage). If you want a car, get something small and sensible through university. You're living on campus which will be even worse, high traffic, higher chance for some jealous guy to come by and fuck it up. 16k to buy one is nice. Be prepared to sink another few thousand into it each year, plus a few thousand up front to get all the mods done. 99% of university students don't have the time or money to be manging a high performance car during school. There's bigger priorities (Books, Beer, and Babes) that you'll want to devote your money to. Take it from someone's who's been through school and screwed up a good car doing it. Wait till you're out and making a good salary, then go blow your 60k on building up the car you want. |
hmm.. good points. maybe i should reconsider the FC then. how much less work, in terms of time/money, should i expect to do on the FC compared to the FD. my origional plan with the fc was to just go pretty much all stock except with a koyo and maybe some guages. and maybe a RB or apexi exhaust if i ever got around to it...

My FD isnt technically my first car, but i would say that is my first real car. My first car was a 1972 Chevell 397 SS, which i bought at 16 - it was a bright orange, loud, rusted pice of junk. After that, I had a 99 integra GSR for like a month before it was stolen and choped. And for the last several years I have had the FD.
For those of you who say people 17-18-19 cant really afford a FD, I would respectfully dissagree. I bought my FD at 19, as fun weekend car, while putting myself through college. There are more teenagers than you would think, who have decient paying jobs and work very hard at what they do. I would say go for the FD! I just hope you live in southern Cal, because a FD dosent make for a good daily driver in the snow. |

Well, thank you....you are one of the only guys that's willing to admit that. I bought mine at 18...had been working 40+ hr. weeks since i was 14. Saved and Saved, bought my FD and have enough to pay for college (Community) food, gas, insurance, you name it. It's really not that hard, you just have to use your money wisely, save, and invest. P.S. I LOVE your car! |

paid for my fd in full at age 16 after saving up for quite some time. Dont regret anything, but I have had to work to pay for everything I put into it, insurance, and than anything that breaks.

Fd w/ the rotary is not a good car for anyone that is either still in high school or paying for college. Its somewhat hard to predict when/if your going to need a rebuild. There are plenty of guys that have had a good rebuild and gotten unlucky and needed another rebuild 200 miles later. Unless you are able to keep that much change lying around i say its not a good idea.

If i go with a TII FC, how much less work in terms of time/money should i expect to do compared to the FD? and about how long on the average will a t2 motor last?

i think san diego is much more expensive. i do agree with him though that FD is one of the more expensive vehicle for your DD. keep ur FD as a project car and get a civic as a DD. |
