How many temp sensor we have, also fuel temp location
How many temp sensor we have, also fuel temp location
Hello guys and girls
Today I started working my coolant temp sensor
The oem gauge doesn't move at All, the powerFC reads very very low values , starts at ambient temperature around 35 C, and maxed out at 75C which is broken for sure, I'm sure the rx7 engine will reach a healthy 90C and maxes at 110C or even more
I'll do a voltage / continuity tests tomorrow on the temp sensor that is behind the water pump near the filler cap
My question is
How many Water / to sensor we have in this car? I think at least 2 but I know only 1, I want to know the ecu temp sensor location
My second question is about the fuel temp sensor location , as lots stated a mixed connection between water and fuel sensor
my third question is about the rad cap, I think my car came with match rad cap on both filler and AST, I read that AST should have a spring and different than filler, if that's correct any help with parts numbers for both?
My car 2001 rx7, just installed powerFC , Autoexe intake
Thanks guys

there are 2 sensors. one on the back of the filler neck that you know about and the other is below the oil filter. its a single terminal that just sticks out a little bit. its in the area of the oil pressure sensor. the one for the ecu is the one on the filler neck. the one near the oil filter is for the gauge cluster. the fuel temp sensor plug can be accidently plugged into the water temp plug yes.
if you suspect this then you can swap the plugs. an easier test would be to unplug the the water temp sensor and see if the reading on the power fc goes to ------. if it DOES then its in the correct location. if it DOES NOT then they are switched.
the caps.... since you are retaining the AST then that one gets the cap with the spring. 0.9-1.1 bar pressure. the cap on the filler neck will have a flat cap with no spring.

I just finished scouring my car, the 2 sensors behind the water pump were found, the upper sensor is plugged to fuel temp sensor wire, I confirmed that, while the lower switch is not connected at all, no wire or plug can be located
so I removed the extended manifold to check the fuel tem sensor, as most say it's below the manifold, I found a temp sensor but was for air temp sensor, looked every where for fuel temp couldn't find
This sensor that was assumed it's the fuel temp sensor, after I checked it's the air temp sensor
This weird plug, was found in the passenger side corner tucked inside with another plud , I don't know why or how,
Here is another picture of the 2 plugs that I found tucked in the corner of passenger side, I suspect the bigger one is the brake oil sensor (as the car was left hand converted)
Here a shot where the 2 water temp sensor, the upper one was connected to a fuel temp plug, the lower one has no plug and I couldn't find any near by
The blue sensor is your AIT, you’ll want to plug that back in. The fuel temp sensor is hiding under the UIM on the secondary rail.
There are 3 sensors for coolant, two behind the thermo housing, those are the two in your last picture. 2pins one is for ECU and 1pin for fan control, and as mentioned one more sensor below the oil pedestal for your gauge.

I reconnected the air temp sensor
I'll look for the fuel temp sensor
By any chance you could identify this unknown plug and wire that I found hidden, the first pic is for 2 plugs on the pastPassenger corner
The second pic is showing 1 loose unknown wire, on the driver side
Those 2 plugs, 1 of them might be the brake oil sensor, the other is suspecious as being a fuel/water temp plug, maybe it's the missing plug that I'm looking for (for the lower water temp sensor) On passenger side
Another view of the suspecious plug,
The driver side unknown wire
