How many pounds of Halon is enough?
Hey guys,
After reading so much about unfortunate FD's catching on fire and even worse, exploding, I have decided that the next thing I want to do is to simply get a Halon fire extinguisher. However, as I am not familiar with fire extinguishing systems, I was wondering how many pounds of Halon would be enough to carry around in my car.
Thanks for the advice!
Raymond

You'll need at least 10 lbs., and it will need to be installed as part of a fire suppression system (i.e., not as simple and cheap as dry chem fire extinguisher bottles).

...remember you're driving an RX-7...5lbs is pushing it... that about 15"x 4",
more important to upgrade lines and damper.
...imagine a high pressure fuel pump spraying gas on a fire.

LOL!!!! ok seriously heres a little info
fuel line breaks and fire explodes under hood....
10lbs = pretty good chance you can get the fire out with little harm to the car
5lbs = maybe it'll all go out
2lbs = hope you have insurance...
I highly recommend www.safecraft.com they make really nice race systems and offer a lot of options

....10lbs!!!...if I mount that in interior I'll have to toss my cup holder...if under hood, then there goes the UIM LOL....
I think 10lbs is required minimum for tow trucks.
...how many pounds do you need if Ole Lady douses car with 5 gallons of gas?

ha hahahahah, well the original question really has no answer. so i gues a practical size in a seven is ohhhhh 1-2 lbs which i'm sure you can get paint matched to you interior and mount to your A pillar and its about enough to give a quick blast which might put out a small fire with out much fuel, given you can get the hood popped and get your billet APC bottle mount unlatched before that little fire ingulfes the whole front of the car.
