How long will my turbos last once they start whining?
It started about a month ago with a very very faint squeak almost. You could hear the turbos spool up and, just a tad bit more noticeably, spool down. Well, about a week ago I replaced my bad wastegate actuator and started making 10lbs of boost again. That lasted for 3 days until I blew my intake elbow in half. Towards that last day I started getting a nice haze of whitish grey smoke during and shortly after boosting. That turbo noise got louder too. I can hear it spool up much more obvious now. It makes a whiny/metalicy noise. Still not so loud that I could hear it over, say, the radio, but loud enough that it bothers me to hear it.
Anyways, the front turbo doesnt seem to have anymore than normal shaft play. Dunno about the rear turbo. I know there's no definite answer, but whats a good guess as to how long I could make this thing last (I returned boost back to 7psi) and I rarely ever see positive pressure. I dont floor it at all anymore either.

this is very bad. basically its turbo whirr. the blades of the turbo is hitting the side housing. if they chip off, they can get into the engine. most likely they will never make it past the intercooler, but the possibility is definately there. if your on a budget find a used set, however, i'd recommend u bite the bullet and just get a new set. rebuilding costss about 850$ and there is a high possiblilty they rebuild will smoke after a few months.

These are rebuilt turbos. It smoked a little when I first got it only after I boosted. My wastegate actuator failed and it didnt smoke for nearly 10 months. Then after I fixed it the smoke came back, this time a little bit more apparent. And now this noise. There is pretty much NO play in the front one. In fact, the front one seems to be perfect.

Oh, and its only a spool up/spool down noise. It does not make it while Im boosting or once I stay in boost. It only does it when initially give it throttle (and it spools them up) and about 1 second after it blows off (when I guess they spool down).
