How long will a blown motor run. I'm going on 120,000 miles
Basically, I want to know if a blown motor can even run at all. I have to admit that my car has been though alot. I have overheated big time on a 1,500 miles trip. My car smokes white in the morning for about 2 minutes. I have no mods whats so ever. My cats are probably clog and I have alot of heat under the engine. Also my boost was bad at one point, even going up to 16 psi for about 3 seconds. I use to have big time Idle problems. My car has been though alot and will probably go very soon but it run really good. Maybe it's because my turbos somtimes boost and most of the time it doesnt. I remember about a month ago I race a Supra TT on the highway and hung with him from 60 to about 120 mph, losing to about 3 car lengths pushing 8 psi. I talk with him after and he was basically a BPU Supra with boost controll. My point is that, basically nothing. How long will my engine last? I drive it every single day for about 150 miles a day.

I thought I would get this response. If I don't boost at all will this rotary last longer than expected. I'm looking to hit 200,000 miles, which I'm determined to do, with the exception of the turbos. I just want to use this engine untell it totally dies. No use of throwing away somthing that still works.

If youre not careful there is gonna be a whole lot more "completely dead" than just your engine buddy...
my suggestion, rebuild your turbos and spring for a new engine. If you don't want to drop the cash thats fine.. just don't punish your baby anymore. I am afraid you will end up replacing much more than just an engine if you go to 200,000

If it is smoking white when you crank it in the morning, and the smoke smells sweet, then you don't have long. You can run the engine till it completely croaks, but if you want to rebuild it, you should do it before it gets that bad. It will cost you less. If you actually think you can get to 200k then you must be crazy.

haha, white smoke, bad boost at one point. and if you get no boost at all say good by to your turbos and rear rotor and housing. that situation sounds so familiar.... i give your car five day's tops til it poops( if you are driving it like you normally do)
just rebuild... you're nuts to think it'll go to 200,000 miles w/ out a rebuild....
if you need a new motor i have a remanufatcured one at the dealership that i'm no longer gonna use.

Actually all the things that I have explained with my car has been happening for almost about 1 year now. I bought the car with rebuilt turbos so there fine, it's just the controls. I just hate everyone saying its gonna blow it's gonna blow. I know facts are the facts and eventally it will go, but to have to think about that everyday is crazy. Rotarys do last, or maybe only the lucky ones. Anyways, so rx7racer, whats your price on the new motor.

you have no chance of making it. If you're planning on trashing the whole motor (ie dont want the end plates and centre housing) then go right ahead. You are a little lucky though - if it was a seal you cant keep driving it because you'll cook your turbos. Having said that I drove for about a month with next to no compression on the rear rotor (you can use boost as a sumbstitute for compression)
Just be prepared for it to totally let go at the most annoying time.

Sounds like this guy doesn't push his car too hard and a lot of those miles seem like no boost highway miles (150 miles a day)...If I were you I'd fork out the money for the rebuild, good luck going 200k on the chassis, I wanna see it done(not sarcastic)

if youre having a coolant problem then you should try putting some of the block sealant stuff in it. it is called K&W Permanent Mettallic Block Weld and you can get it at pep boys. ive talked to some guys that used it and it worked. you should also try this stuff called "z-max". it is an engine treatment, but not like the other stuff. it soaks into the metal. the other stuff is a coating on your engine. if youre gonna try for this 200k miles, then you have no loss in trying to use this stuff.
take one for the team and let us know how this z-max stuff works!!!! haha

K&W is a completely different type of formulation, has been around for 15 years and DOES NOT WORK. The CRC compound was released in 2000.
I think there is an outside chance he COULD make 200,000 if he stays off the boost and does frequent oil changes. There are plenty of first gens running around with that kind of mileage on the original engines. Of course they were on the road before many of the gen Y geniuses on the forum were born.........

Just to let you all know. I went for a compression today and guess what. My engine is close to perfect. Rear rotor has a tad bit more compression than the front, but the rotary specialist that the engine was still really good. Funny thing was that he was not really surprised that the engine was still good. Shame on you all for doubting the mighty rotary. I'm still scared of the white smoke on crank up. I know it's the coolant seal, and the time will come, but tell now many more miles will come.
