How hot is your FD (Searched)
Just finish installing Defi water temperature gauge and from a dead stop (in garage), gauge shown 200*, fan kick in at 205*, then back down to 200*; fan off. Temp never go below 200*
Is this normal? would it be cooler if car was moving?
To me 200* is hot...my 408 cid cobra run 210* or even 215* in summer time.

200's safe. Pure water boils at 212 *F, at 0 pressure. Your cooling system operates at ~13psi AND has antifreeze in it. Both of these things raise your boiling point, so you shouldn't boil until at least 240 F. Many RX-7 owners start to worry around 230F.

Do the fan mod and your car will run cooler. I think it makes the fans come on around 85-87 C. Anyways, I just got my FD running again, and she doesn't run over 87 C.

It is about 50* today in Dallas, TX...took the 7 out for a drive and temp gauge shown 180*...it would be nice if she run 190-195* with mid August weather.

That seems normal.
In the summer at idle with the fans on (manually), the car would not budge 185f, maybe with long driving and/or some boosting it would stay at about 195f but never over.
Now that its cold, ill be lucky if my gauge moves past 180f

Yes you can enable your fans to come online earlier. Like said previously you will need a datalogit to do so. I do beleive it is under the settings 4 menu.

200F = 93C
If you do a FC thermoswitch (fits perfectly unlike the Miata), you'll get the fans to turn on sooner. Check the archives for a thread from Dale Clark. If you have a PFC, you can use a Datalogit to change the temps at which the fans kick on. I run mine at low 85, med 87, high 89.
