How does coolant get back into the AST from the reservoir?

The ast cap is pressurized to allow coolant/air to pass to the reservoir but when the coolant contracts as it's cooled, how's does it by pass the ast cap to reenter the coolings system? Should it have two valves on the ast cap?

nvm. Didn't realize they do all have 2 valves
