How do you remove the ball joints?

I am installing my Unobtainium bushings and am having a real hard time getting the ball joints out on either side. I have tried using a pickle fork, and also tried to hammer it out. Am I missing something? Do you have to use the special Mazda tool?

well hammer is the quickest way to buy a new ball joint.. Either use THE RIGHT pickle fork or go get a ball joint puller.. You might be able to rent one from your local napa etc..
