how do you measure a V band?

I would like to adapt my Down pipe, well actually Attach a Pipe to the Turbo, which means I need a V Band Flange to Go to the Turbo.
My Dilemma is this: how do you measure the flange?.do you take the Measurment, from the outside of the Flange,or the Inside of the Turbo?
I get 3.5 inches from outside to outside(across the turbo outlet flange)..Now,the inside of the outlet is 3".The lip on the flange looks to be a 1/4 inch each way.
So.What do I Order/Use?..a 3.5 inch V band and clamp,or a 3 Inch?..
Thanks Gentlemen,I posted in The 3rd gen Section because I feel you Guys have encountered this More.Cheers STYX!~

Your first post gave me a headache. The size is determined the pipe od, sounds like you need a 3" v-band. http://www.full-race.com/catalog/pro...roducts_id=230
