He had an existing wing to base of.
But he shows you how to do a basic template and the side shots will give you a good idea of were the first two bolts on the farthest side go. If you have the wing. Remove the bolts so you can sit the wing flush with the trunk.
Move it till it's aligned equal space from the end of the trunk on both sides. Take some masking tape and tape the edge of the wings on the front, back, and side on both sides of the wing where it sits flush with the trunk. Take the wing off and leave the tape on the trunk. You now have an outline of where the "feet" are. From that just make a template like Howzer did in the video but pokes holes for all three bolt areas. Then line it up with the masking tape on both sides. Double check everything lines up before you drill holes.
Just go slow and don't rush it. When you put the "Feet" on make sure to silicone the outer edges were it sits flush with the trunk to stop water from seeping in and getting trapped under it.
I have to do the same thing this weekend. He had the luxury of having a starting point. Those of us that don't will need to remember that you'll need to do any template with the wing completely assembled. This will assure that you don't end up with holes too far apart or too close together that the center blade won't fit.
Also, completely cover your rear deck with masking tape before you start marking and drilling holes. That way you won't accidentally scrape up your paint while test fitting, etc.
This was the article that I followed when install my 99 wing. I did have an R1 wing before but you should be able to line everything up and make a template to mark out the holes before drilling them.

I installed mine over the weekend. Just use the templates I'm attaching here and it will come out perfectly. Use the marked edges of the templates to line up on your car. You will use the templates to cut 3 holes. DO NOT cut the holes that have the red arrows pointing to them. Besides the holes listed on the templates, you will need to drill one more which you will be able to easily mark once you cut the other three and mock the spoiler up on the car.
1. Use painters tape to tape up the area on the trunk where the spoiler will go.
2. Tape the templates onto the trunk in their correct spots (on top of the tape from step 1.)
3. Center punch (my preferred method) or another option to mark the center of each hole that needs to be drilled.
4. Remove the templates and drill the 3 holes on each side.
5. With the holes drilled, bring the spoiler to the car and thread the two side pieces partially on both sides.
6. Mark the 4th hole with a marker.
7. Remove the spoiler.
8. Drill the 4th hole.
9. Remove the hatch panels.
10. Install the spoiler.
