How to Differentiate 3rd Gen from Other Rotary Engine Parts

A friend of mine has some engine parts he wants to sell. Inherited them and doesn't know their background. I know the FSM specifys how to check tolerances, etc. but how can you tell what generation an iron, housing, or rotor, for instance, comes from?

Are there casting numbers on the irons and housings or stampings on the rotors?

Thanks,

Jeff

Kevin detailed the differences for most of the internal parts.

Thank you for the link. Very informative.

Looks like it is not as simple as casting numbers or stampings.

If I understood what Kevin was saying 13B-REW rotors need to weigh 9.5 lbs. (+/- weight code) w/out the bearing and that's about it. Only other difference seems to be 13B-REW has a larger oil groove in the bearing. So if I want a 13B-REW rotor that's the criteria - weight and oil groove size.

As far as housings go - 13B-REW will have a port for the knock sensor and only two oil injection ports. Also, no coolant passage where the LIM bolts up.

But what about the irons? Any differences there? I know that even in the 13B-REW the rear iron is different on an auto vs. a manual transmission car. Anything else? Anything in the oil pump area?

Thanks again,

Jeff
