How come my FD has 6 gears + R???

How come my FD has 6 gears + R???
Okay had to pull a made you look.

But this is about my manual transmission. I've been meaning to ask, I've taken off the IM a few times already. I noticed that on the top of the transmission, there is an open area about 6 inches by 2", you can actually see the interior of the transmission as well as the flywheel. Is this normal, it looks hazardous, but anyways just wondering if there should be a plate on there, or if this comes from the factory like this. Obviously, I'm not the original owner of this vehicle.

damn i looked, i beleive they call that the transmission window? or something like that. It's so you can peek in and see all is well, but ya there should be a cover.

I think I'm missing the same cover. FWIW, the 365gtb/4 Daytona has a little "window" like this as well, guess we both should find covers now. And I got all excited about a 6 speed FD. Josh

Well, except for the ignition breakup (dips from 5,900 to 6,200 and 6,700 to 7,300) and lack of tuning (note the A/F ratios)...
