it depends on what is causing the squeeking. On my hatch I found out that the rear wing was mounted too far back and was rubbing on the rear taillight assembly. My long-term fix will be to remove the wing alltogether, but in the mean time some little round adhesive felt pads have stopped the noise.

In my FC the rubber bumpers were rubbing against the metal. Adhesive felt worked there as well. On my car (1994) I notice that there are clear stickers on the metal where the rubber bumpers hit - check for those or try another material (like felt :-)

Did you try spacing out the rubber stops, like originally mentioned in the Robinette site? I didn't mess with the hinges; I just cut out some spacers using some 2mm thick rubber mat. It stopped the squeaking and rattling, and didn't cause extreme misalignment with the rest of the bodywork.

I've done both, I lowered the latch and then shimmed the rubber stoppers to compensate, and I still have a rattle and a squeak, so mine is coming from somewhere else (the hatch is now pretty hard to close).

When i got my car the previouse owner tried to install his own stereo. He just pulled the side trim plastic off without keeping track of the little metal clips that hold them tight. I bought aroud 100 of these clips from the dealer and pulled all the plastic out of the car, (there was only 2 clips in the whole car) Replaced all the clips, and squeaks were gone. Also on my hatch I just wrap some electrical tape around the latch and it stops the rattle/squeak. I have run all the foam strips and everything but none made a difference except for the tape. Hope this helps out!

Heh, my trunk takes quite a bit of force to close as well, especially without a spoiler. However, if the windows are down....
Watch out! That trunk will slam the hell down! LOL!

Rub jelly on all the bolts. Also adjust your latch.

My hatch had squeaks and rattles.
- The squeaks go away if I WD40 the hinges. I discovered this after trying every other less obvious remedy, no luck.
- The rattles were caused by a loose washer bouncing around inside the trim molding, and one of those trim attachment clip pins similarly bouncing loose in there.
(cool, cuz I was needing one of those!)

Try wrapping some electrical tape a few times around the latch.

My hatch squeaked for years. I lowered the latching mechanism all the way, raised the rubber shims/stoppers, and lubed them with lithium grease. Nothing worked. But then 5 cents worth of electrical tape did it. Haven't heard a squeak since. Go figure.

I agree, I tried everything (lowering the latch, new stoppers, lubing everything, etc.), but adding a few wraps of electrical tape was the one that really did fix the problem.

Is it possible that the rattle isn't in your hatch? I had some upper 'A' arm bushing problems that, initially, sounded as though it originated there. Also, if you haven't done so already, check the hatch shocks and make sure you spare and jack or secured properly.

are you sure its your hatch i thought it was for ages until i realised the bit that fold up and down behind the rear seats/bins was making the noise from where this clips in. the bit you unlock to put the rear part up and down if you know what i mean

It's definetly the hatch
i think the real proble is the rubber seal
i'll tri to put textile-tape on the painted surface it seals against

I know this is a really old post, but the electrical tape trick finally stopped my sqeeking hatch...I love it and can't believe how simple a fix this was considering I tried everything else including changing the hatch lift supports. My car sounds and feels much more solid from just 5 cents worth of electrical tape, so quick now...I love it.
